I'm the first person to call it out when shows/movies handle it in a gratuitous way, but imo The Penguin's doing a pretty decent job? Most of it is off-screen, but it still has emotional weight, and the female characters are allowed to be complex and interesting. The Arkham stuff was OTT, yeah, but it's Arkham; it's an established pop culture thing and it's certainly not pretending to be realistic re: the mental health system, and it very much informs Sofia's whole arc (and Carmine's, and everyone else's). So idk if I agree in this case, but it's at least nice to hear male actors discussing this.

I watched the first couple episodes and completely forgot about this show. I just felt like I didn’t care enough but I did enjoy what I watched.

I feel like The Penguin has been pretty self-aware of the violence towards women given that Sofia is just basically like "fuck all men, I'm taking what's mine". Like yes, it's there and the show is definitely saying that it's wrong. And the show has definitely avoided gratuitous objectification of women. I was very much expecting boobs to be shown during the delousing scene but there wasn't an even an ass shot. They showed the top of her back and her ankles. And I think most, if not all, of the prostitutes have been shown with their clothes on.

We've seen more of Colin Farrell's naked fat suit than the women on this show.

Watch, now that I've said this, the next episode is going to drop and it'll be like Penguin spends the day at a full-nude strip club and there will be boobs and asses in the background of every single shot.
