my mother's cancer was also found during a routine mammogram. feels like so many women are getting diagnosed lately, or maybe people are just more open to talk about it :(

I'll admit that the pop up almost had me for a second.

i feel it's a combo of better imaging and openness discussing these things- or maybe just more openness as we get older? when i hit 30 i noticed more and more of my conversations with the women in my life could veer into health territory very quickly.

The story about Angela wearing hats to help Jenna cover is so sweet. What a special friendship.

I’m glad Jenna is cancer free now and I wish her good health going forward.

I saw this at the top of my IG feed and gasped. I’m so happy she’s recovered.

Office Ladies has been my main podcast lately - I came into it far too late even though I was a hardcore day one fan of the US Office, and so far I’m on Local Ad from season 4. I’m the type who watched all my DVDs with commentary so to hear even more background on the episodes is a real treat, and I love their friendship. The book was good too! (lol I read it a couple years before even listening to the podcast oops)

It really scares me how many women are being diagnosed. Usually it’s comforting for me to see celebrities go through health issues because it can feel really lonely when you live with chronic illnesses - but, breast cancer scares me so much. I know too many women in my life who have had it and way too many celebrities. Wtf is going on.

I’m so glad she’s cancer free and I hope she stays that way.

Unfortunately if I am to die of breast cancer, I will die of breast cancer, because not even the possibility of dying (which honestly I don't really care about either) can convince me to go through a mammogram. If and only if one day medicine comes up with a less torturous way of diagnosing this cancer, then I'll make sure to do it. I don't think that will happen in my lifetime though.

Is really not that terrible but ask your doctor if alternate screening options like an ultrasound or mri is an option. Better than nothing.

You can also get a breast ultrasound. These are usually recommended for women under the age of 45, but I think older women can get them as well.

I’ve had multiple mammograms - they’re not comfortable, but they are not that bad and they don’t last long. I have an extremely low pain threshold and I can tolerate them. Don’t be afraid.
