Also, I am jaded by publication of celebrity donations, especially when they donate through their OWN foundation.

Example:
Morgan Wallen donated $500,000 to his own foundation to help flood victims, which then presumably will get the money to... someone to help someone. At the end of the day, how much did Morgan donate vs what his tax write-off back to his own pocket will be? Just write a fucking check to WCK or Red Cross.

Why does that not surprise me about Wallen. 45 did the same thing too, he grifted hurricane relief donations from his cult, which will most likely go to his own pocket.

They would both do more for hurricane relief if they just threw paper towels at people.

45 has now named the places he is giving. Reuters fact checked and even updated when the GoFundMe updated the charities on that GFM. Not surprisingly, it is still a giant white christian nationalist dog whistle

Dolly has routinely donated both out of her own pocket and through the Dollywood Foundation, which legit is doing some AMAZING work not just in the US but internationally. Its most famous project is the Imagination Library, but also the My People Fund which focuses on the Great Smokies area, including relief from natural disasters. After the Gatlinburg fires in 2016, Dolly provided each family who lost their home $1,000 a month for six months while they got back on their feet.

Imagination Library sends over 2 million books a MONTH to children ages 0-5 in covered areas (they partner with local groups to split funding) in not just the US but overseas. They even now send braille books to children who are blind or have low vision. If your county offers it, EVERY child is qualified. I signed my nephew up before he was even born and he got his first book when he was a few days old.

It's not just a tax write-off for her, Dolly literally practices what she preaches re: philanthropy and has for decades. She donated massive amounts to fund ( ... )

Politicians are more concerned over a cult in the Middle East

If you mean that the US budget is disproportionately slanted toward the military engaged in foreign affairs that we shouldn’t be engaged in, as opposed to that money going to assist our own people in need, then I agree.

If you mean something else, can you please elaborate (or not, if you don’t want to open that can in here, which I get).

I'm talking about politicians like Lindsey graham who changed subject on live tv to talk about giving Israel more bullets instead of helping out communities here

MAGA politicizing this and using it to spread more false information is infuriating

yeah, i hate how I am used to Donald Trump lying, but intentionally spreading disinformation about a natural disaster while so many people are still suffering is a special kind of evil. a new low for this monster who should be rotting in hell.

<3 i think in the end the biggest damage to me will be making it so i can't get a job and can't afford to live here anymore which was already a problem for anyone who wasn't rich anyway. This is just going to speed up the gentrification of the mountains even faster than COVID did.

i'm sorry :(

it's not better in the triangle, like you said. it wasn't too bad when i lived there, but my perspective is skewed by miami prices. is the triad super expensive now too?

are you able to or planning on relocating?

I'm able to relocate and thinking about it in the back of my head, but I really don't want to. At this point, I might have to, especially if I want to get a state job and vest into retirement finally LOL. It would immediately soar my retirement portfolio by 6 figures by just working 3.5 more months and getting access to that money. Stupid former job knew what they were doing when I got RIFed...
