I am not familiar with this group, does their main audience skew toward teens/young adults or women? If that was the case I could understand people feeling hesitation when a bunch of old dudes show up.

They have a majority women audience - but from what I understand this wasn't like... a group of men together. It was individual men who were seemingly attending the gig solo (there is even a known stereotype in the UK of the '6 Music Dad' who is generally a fatherly type who likes to keep up with new music, buy merch, who tend to attend gigs by themselves). I stumbled upon their song "Sinner" and went home and bought the album on Bandcamp. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. They're like ABBA meets Lana Del Rey meets boygenius meets Kate Bush.
