If the venue isn't making excuses and genuinely did receive reports about lone men acting inappropriately at prior gigs then that's a reasonable basis for concern, but it sounds like they acted on it in the clumsiest way possible.

Hm, I have mixed feelings. As someone who goes to Prog concerts where the majority of attendees are older 'prog dads' coming alone, I must say these shows are hands down the ones where I feel most comfortable and safe. On the other hand, if it's an artist that mostly caters to underage and/or female audiences, I can understand how seeing older men attending alone (although in my experience, younger men attending in pairs or groups are the problematic ones) might make other attendees feel uncomfortable. In general, I think security personnel needs better awareness training, though, and be more alert and attentive during events instead of just at the entrance. I've been in countless uncomfortable situations inside a venue with no security in sight, or staff saying "sorry, not my responsibility" D:

this is it. if they'd actually do their jobs in dealing with bad behaviour inside the venue, they wouldn't need to pull this Minority Report shit.

IA and just would say that the sight of older men alone is obviously not a justification. Agree that security needs to be vigilant in the venue and concerts should be safe spaces, but part of the deal with a concert is you’re walking into a space with strangers of all kinds. If a young attendee isn’t ready for that experience they shouldn’t be going. Not trying to sound victim blame-y especially considering how many threats and incidences happen at concerts, but generally speaking post-pandemic I’ve found young gen z’ers to completely lack in concert etiquette and just generally not know how to behave in public spaces. It’s at the point that there are shows I would want to go to but if the audience skews young I will opt not to spend the money.

lbr men do no need to go to the trouble of buying tickets to see bands they're not fans of just to be able to harass women, they can do it in the street any time they like...not that harassment at gigs doesn't happen but ffs you can't judge by age and appearance who's going to be a "pervert", this just seems really counterproductive...a whole of shit and were the women at that gig actually any safer?? idk, i get the "lol poor men" comments but this feels really off to me.

IDK stats for this sort of thing but yeah I think too many people think that male-on-female crime, where neither party knows each other, is super premeditated (granted you almost only hear about those crimes because it makes for "a better story"). I have to agree with another user here, what were they expecting to find on these guys besides maybe roofies?

We'll possibly never know stats on male on female crime when they're strangers because hate crimes against women are horrendously underreported.
