In a now deleted IG video, Jaclyn Hill jokes about Hurricane Helene and proceeds to give her hot take on hurricanes vs. earthquakes since she now lives in California.
Okay both earthquakes and hurricanes are natural disasters and they equally suck.
I've lived in Florida my whole life and the amount of hurricanes I've experienced is nuts.
Floridians joke when it's a small category sure, but we still prepare and hope our area does not get too damaged.
Hurricane Helena devastated a lot of people and we have more storms forming.
I've never experienced earthquakes but my parents have being from south America so I can only imagine how scary that feeling is.
I've lived through hurricane Andrew which was a cat 5 turned overnight and it destroyed my aunts house. I was 3 years old but could still you the experience like it happened yesterday.
Climate change is affecting how powerful and frequent these natural disasters occur.
You'd think entering October we would feel safer but hurricane season isn't over until the end of November even though August and September have always been most active months.
This is it though. You can only joke when you’re the one experiencing it and amongst others! It’s like siblings. You can trash them all you want but the moment someone else does…NOPE.
Reading about Helene I was reminded of Hurricane Andrew. News reports of the devastation are seared into my memory. I’m so sorry your fam had to go through that 🧡
Exactly BB, I would never dismiss or compare tornados etc etc because logically they all suck and my heart goes to people who deal with the devastation.

Lol facts!! my favorite tweet a few years back was the ones that "Floridians making their yearly monetary donation to the gods so a hurrican doesn't come" with said gods being a picture of Publix supermarket!!!
What a weird take. I don’t get people gatekeeping natural disasters and the like. I remember when we had a small earthquake earlier this year and Californians on social media were like “lol that was nothing! You all are babies” when that’s not the point at all…
As a Midwestern native I would never downplay another region’s fear concerning tornados. I don’t know why this is making me so angry!
CA born and raised and ever since Northridge I have been terrified of earthquakes. It doesn’t matter the size, that it happens at all is not ok. The ground is meant to be solid… I’ve got to be able to at least count on that, and yet it’s not!
So glad not to live there anymore and still worry for those that do live there for when the “big one” hits. There are too many places the infrastructure is not at all setup to support people in escaping and a lot of people are going to be hurt/killed simply over the fact that there’s no way to get out.
anyway... i'm one of the lucky few to get my power back sooner rather than later in my county and it's crazy out there. there are uprooted trees down every other street. people in line for drive thrus on the street and out the door. very little food or gas. absolutely no one in upstate carolina was prepared for this.
I was lucky enough to just lose power for 12ish hours. I've got friends in Asheville and they're just now getting cell service back. One friend who moved back to where I am was just able to get a hold of her parents. The way she's laughing like it's a funny thing and a contest on who has been through worse natural disasters is wild to me.
They said my estimated power repair time is October 4th. But that’s just what they’re sending out to everyone so they’ll stop asking, I think. That’s their goal for the whole county.
Were those earthquakes even damaging? I don't know tbf because I haven't read anything about them, but we get wobbles here all the time which don't damage shit and it's like "oh there's another one"
