Okay both earthquakes and hurricanes are natural disasters and they equally suck.

I've lived in Florida my whole life and the amount of hurricanes I've experienced is nuts.

Floridians joke when it's a small category sure, but we still prepare and hope our area does not get too damaged.

Hurricane Helena devastated a lot of people and we have more storms forming.

I've never experienced earthquakes but my parents have being from south America so I can only imagine how scary that feeling is.

I've lived through hurricane Andrew which was a cat 5 turned overnight and it destroyed my aunts house. I was 3 years old but could still you the experience like it happened yesterday.

Climate change is affecting how powerful and frequent these natural disasters occur.

You'd think entering October we would feel safer but hurricane season isn't over until the end of November even though August and September have always been most active months.

This is it though. You can only joke when you’re the one experiencing it and amongst others! It’s like siblings. You can trash them all you want but the moment someone else does…NOPE.

Reading about Helene I was reminded of Hurricane Andrew. News reports of the devastation are seared into my memory. I’m so sorry your fam had to go through that 🧡

Exactly BB, I would never dismiss or compare tornados etc etc because logically they all suck and my heart goes to people who deal with the devastation.

Ty! It was scary but also hurricane season of 2005 I believe when it was one hurricane after the other. Katrina didn't hit us but Wilma did. Sadly we all remember where Katrina took aim at.

I was worried because I was on my own and had to work but fortunately my area was safe.

The memes with the fans and stuff haha. Never seen those hurricane cakes but apparently publix no longer does them?

I get people thinking it's insensitive but it was still good for business

the devastation in western north carolina feels like a nightmare. so many people's lives have been absolutely ruined. there are several towns that nobody can get into or out of because the roads are demolished, washed out, or covered in debris ( ... )

I hope help arrives soon and that people get much needed assistance.

yes! so much help has already arrived there, but this evening i heard from a friend who knows someone in search and rescue, and according to them the chimney rock area has so many bodies they've run out of body bags. i just watched a briefing of local towns and first responders, and they're only saying 30 people so far have died. i wonder how much that count will grow as they're able to get access to more areas, and if chimney rock is part of that body count.

the first responders are going to have so much trauma from this situation. my cousin, who was an emt, never emotionally recovered from katrina and the baggage of it caused him to end his life early.

i hope they all find the therapy they need to process this horror.

honestly fuck jaclyn for trying to make light of it all.

from my experience people along the gulf coast in general have a pretty good… idk if sense of humor is the right word, but something like that when it comes to hurricanes. It’s why you see tiktoks of people standing in the road with flags blowing in the wind and people floating down their street post hurricane on a pool floatie. I think if you’re from a hurricane prone region, you kind of half to have that nature about you because it’s inevitable. We joke and play, but we know when to take it seriously. But I do think the jokes should be reserved for the people who just spent hours in a dark house without power while wind and rain pummel their homes, not knowing if everything will be okay until it is.

Several of my families lost their homes in Andrew, then again in Floyd and then once again in Dorian. Hurricanes can be terrifying and traumatising…my cousin is in therapy to this day; my aunt goes into a panicked state whenever it rains hard or storms.

I lived my first 14 years in Louisiana, would probably still live there today if Katrina hadn't happened. I then spent the next 12 years in Tennessee (so fall out from hurricanes + tornadoes). Now, I live in the Midwest, and it's snow storms and tornadoes. Pretty, much every area of the US is going to have its own natural disasters and we need empathy for those affected. The weather is something that is so out of our control. And it's only getting more extreme because of corporate greed and polution.

Yeah I completely agree with you. Things are just going to continue getting worse climate wise.

It's a shame more people don't want to see that.
