Yeah, I've become irrationally angry about how Netflix has treated this movie the past 18 months or so (when it became obvious it wasn't on Netflix's 2023 slate - and I guess 2024 now) hence why I provide updates constantly LMAO.

Netflix even had the cast do promo stuff on the set in 2022 about how excited the actors were to be back, and given that they did so little promo when the first movie came out because COVID (July 2020), I think the fans were excited that maybe the cast could actually do promo stuff this time beyond zoom interviews, but alas, Netflix for some reason hates this series. Or else the movie is terrible idk (they did change directors but same writer, who also wrote the comics - and having read the comics, I have zero clue who Uma Thurman is playing).

Oh, it 100% has, and that's on Netflix for shooting themselves in their own foot for some unknown reason. The reason I'm still invested is just sheer spite at Netflix. But as well all know, Netflix executives are fucking idiots.

But I'll be honest - I really liked the first one, it was one of the few things that managed to spark joy during the Summer of COVID and Unrest, but my interest in a sequel plummeted when Gina Prince-Bythewood left the project. I think the movie was better than it had any right to be in large part because of her.

oh damn, i've been super excited about a sequel and i had just assumed she was returning. i wonder why. gina's amazing so i'm sure her loss will be felt, but i'm glad they at least replaced her with another black female director, instead of a male director, which hollywood has done with sequels to successful films.

AFAIK it was because she was doing The Woman King (which came out actually around the same time the old guard 2 wrapped), but she's still a producer on the sequel.
