Jenna is kinda pretentious so I’m not surprised she brought up that movie lol.

But tale as old as time, people get worried when the landscape doesn’t resemble the one they grew up with.

True. I also think alot of us watched classic films because they aired on TV and we had no choice but to watch them. But I'm glad I watched so many of em. The younger gen though watch alot of TV so.

I've seen Back to the Future so many times on cable, and I'm so happy for it.

I think it’s cool that Jenna is interested and knowledgeable about the medium she works in. I don’t think that’s pretentious, and I think that attitude is unfortunate. I Am Cuba is really influential in terms of how it was shot so that’s cool she recognizes that.

I also don’t think it’s a worry about the landscape but a worry about how people have zero attention spans anymore.

The thing about Gen Alpha and Z is they don’t want to learn from the past.

Also they have shorter attention spans thanks to TikTok, Instagram reels, YouTube and the like….thus why I feel new movies that are coming out pacing are a bit all-over the place.

yes movies with lots of shifts in tone and "plot twists" even the whole multi-verse thing is just to feed the shorter attention spans

"The thing about Gen Alpha and Z is they don’t want to learn from the past"

They may be true, but the ones I've interacted with have a far better moral code and sense of justice than many of the previous generations.
Ignorance of the past is bad, but a sense of justice is good. I only have hope for them.

I am not really talking about the morality but more of learning from experience and the like…even as a hairstylist I see the younger generation going straight to renting a chair or opening up their own suite after beauty school, but have zero clientele nor the skills to service the clients.

Even in the hair world it is highly recommended to assist under a seasoned hairstylist for at least 2 years.

For the younger generation of celebrities I feel they just want the fame but don’t care to culminate the art/skills to become better actors or etc. like they want the clout, prestige and wealth without the art and passion.

I stopped being interested after those movie theater shootings. I also like trashy tv better. Actors try too hard to be cool, edgy and aspirational it’s so fake.

Given that Millie Bobby Brown admitted she doesn't watch movies, I assume Winona is talking about her specifically.

I know it can sound pretentious but I think the best music comes from people who genuinely love and respect the craft. Same goes for film and television. These a living mediums and I think having a lack of curiosity in a creative field is weird. You don't have to love everything, but like there is a clear line between His Girl Friday-to any modern snappy dialogue film/tv show. Sam and Diana is the reason why most tv couples are the way they are.

It is good to at least know where things come from.

ia. and i don't think you have to know all of the old school films/songs/books/etc. under the sun for this to hold true. but you have to exhibit curiosity and appreciate the landscape, if that makes sense.

anyone remember the discourse a while back about writers who don't read books? iirc ana mardoll was at the scene of the crime lol.

Ana Mardoll was trying to say that expecting authors to be readers was ableist or something like that?
