I respect the hell out of people who share private battles to help other people, hope she’s able to beat it quickly

It's always weird to have these discussions in America because our insurance companies get to determine what health screens we are allowed to have and not have. Hell even when I go to my doctor's now a days they are asking if I will cover expenses not covered by insurance (that you don't get to know if they will cover or not until afterwards).

This is what gets me. I was eventually told to contact BOTH insurance and doctors’ office to see what would be covered before a standard visit but you still get screwed over. The bills I’ve received from what should be covered under “annual visits.” Preventative healthcare is not a thing in this country.

For real, it's all a big hassle. I cannot believe people don't want this to change at all!

I have a family history - both my mom & her sister had breast cancer. My doctor ordered a mammogram in October. I went to schedule & I couldn't because you have to be 40, so I don't qualify for another 5 years.

There are tons of news articles about how people now get cancer at younger ages too.

wishing her a very very fast treatment and recovery!

can I just say that mammogram machines are THE WORST? who designed these! its as if they didnt realize that people have heads and necks - I have to crane mine to the side and it hurts so badly.

I'm approaching 40 and I'm so not looking forward to mammograms (but I'll do it!) I was so relieved when my doctor said my next pap smear was next year, not this year. I seriously want to know why women's healthcare is so barbaric.

Apparently you can wait a few yrs for a pap smear if you’re low risk, that’s what my dr told me. No clue what that means.

Because it was designed by men (using research based on unconsenting female slave’s bodies), who perpetuated myths like “the cervix feels no pain”, is immensely unfunded, and also serves as a means of control by removing women’s agency over their bodies and lives, so largely sexist (and often misogynistic) societies and cultures have no interest in changing up the status quo as long as it keeps men in power and women at home.

But men get given fistfuls of dick pills and all the analgesia they want.

Rant over. I had an IUD fitted earlier this year and I’m still bitter as hell about the whole experience.
