A vegan diet is not restrictive. I personally eat way more varied now than when I was still eating meat and dairy, and like me the majority of vegans I know.
Omitting certain food groups from your diet is restriction, but I get what you’re saying. Humans have barely scratched the surface and only eat less than 10% of all edible plant species. I googled.
You can get protein from foods outside of meat. She probably wasn’t eating properly being plant based and I know from my own experience of being plant based then going back to meat thinking my body needed it but really I just needed to add more variety to how I was cooking and what I was eating. Meat is actually really disgusting and lately I’ve been having bad dreams about chicken being rotten and poisonous so I’m going back. Idk I think in America we should NOT be eating half the stuff we eat. Even some of our fruit is fake and unnaturally seedless. I felt healthier and looked better on a plant based diet when I was doing it the right way.
Huh. Personally I could never see myself going back to eating meat. The factory farming industry is evil. Point blank. I look at meat at the supermarket and I see an animal that was bred into existence just to be tortured, abused and murdered
I really can't recommend Tender is the Flesh enough, it's really opening people's eyes as to what awful shit is going on that the world keeps ignoring. I really hope it gets made into a series/movie tbh
Woah, that book rec... thank you for that, sounds super fascinating. Already added to my bookshop cart for my next purchase round. I can already tell this is going to haunt me, lol.
it's very dark and disturbing so be prepared for that!
but it's literally been turning people vegan/vegetarian everywhere. honestly, I think they should teach it in schools. it's also a great critique of capitalism and consumerism gone out of control
The last two times I went to go donate blood, my iron levels were just below minimum required and they keep telling me that I need to eat red meat but I just can't acquire the taste for it! I tried eating all the veggies that have iron but I can only have so much of that. (yeah yeah I know, I should probably go to the doctor and see what's up)
So I'm hindu so I don't eat beef. Ok technically I can because my family is a very relaxed type of Hindu, but I just hate the flavor of any type of red meat that I've had. People have told me that I'm probably not having the good quality stuff but I'm not about to pay loads for something I might not enjoy
My partner has been vegetarian since birth and went fully vegan about a year ago - before that he was eating plant-based during the work week, and then 'cheating' on a weekend.
I'm pescatarian but eat excusively vegan at home - because who the fuck can be bothered to cook two meals? Our food bills are super cheap, we eat at incredibly interesting restaurants (especially abroad - finding vegan food in Japan is a challenge but we found the best little spots), and I'm doing my bit.
I'll probably go vegan in the next few years myself as he wants to raise our kids vegan - so it'll just make things easier. And also I'll feel better about myself.

Like, I could buy a pound of ground beef or a steak for not much more.
I don't understand why it is so damn expensive. It always has been.
