Every year people declare someone a frontrunner just because they won the Critics Choice. The only value they add is a televised acceptance speech and they’re not even the first of the season.
Cate Blanchett won critic's choice and BAFTA last year and then Michelle Yeoh got SAG and won. Critic's Choice as a precursor is a bit...eh these days.
Lol given that they’ve never nominated Denzel I wasn’t surprised but I kept thinking that she was okay-ish because she had SAG.
But I always said the race should’ve been between Lily and Sandra who gave stronger and better (accents too) performances. Sandra was my pick but I would’ve been fine with Lily winning.
I was hoping that Lily winning the SAG meant she had a bigger chance but then I remembered Glenn Close won the year Olivia Colman the Oscar (and Lily wasn't even nominated for the BAFTA).
And then they had Jennifer Lawrence introduce her with that terrible and robotic reading of the teleprompter. Ugh
Yeah people kept comparing it to Cate/Michelle from last year but it more closely paralleled Glenn/Olivia.
But even then Olivia’s campaign was a lot stronger than Lily. And funny enough they had similar discussions as to whether it was supporting or lead! To me Olivia was always a supporting character from the moment the trailer dropped and Emma was lead but for the award Olivia got placed in lead.
Not to mention, Jennifer's past disrespectful actions towards Native Hawaiians, and the fact she’s close friends with Emma and was most likely rooting for her to win, the Oscars couldn’t have put less thought into honoring Lily in that moment

The winner of the BAFTA special effects award (Poor Things) wasn't even nominated for an Oscar somehow.

Even more confirmed when Emma won BA. I’m still Baftas didn’t give it to Sandra :(. That’s when I knew Sandra wasn’t winning. :(

I thought Emma did a good job with the role, but it didn't help for me that I only liked not loved Poor Things.

I don't wanna talk about it unless it's Messi or I'm just Ken
It's not as much of a dig at Emma who I think is fine but two Oscars at 35 for these two roles? Cmon. the message being sent is very clear
