I was hoping that Lily winning the SAG meant she had a bigger chance but then I remembered Glenn Close won the year Olivia Colman the Oscar (and Lily wasn't even nominated for the BAFTA).
And then they had Jennifer Lawrence introduce her with that terrible and robotic reading of the teleprompter. Ugh
Yeah people kept comparing it to Cate/Michelle from last year but it more closely paralleled Glenn/Olivia.
But even then Olivia’s campaign was a lot stronger than Lily. And funny enough they had similar discussions as to whether it was supporting or lead! To me Olivia was always a supporting character from the moment the trailer dropped and Emma was lead but for the award Olivia got placed in lead.
Not to mention, Jennifer's past disrespectful actions towards Native Hawaiians, and the fact she’s close friends with Emma and was most likely rooting for her to win, the Oscars couldn’t have put less thought into honoring Lily in that moment
I still don't understand why they didn't have Michelle do it, or why they didn't have Cate Blanchett come and do it for Lily. I'm sure she would have since she was supportive of Lily all throughout her campaign. Instead, we got what we got and it leaves that much more bitter of a taste in the mouth.
