i have more sympathy for her because she at least admitted her guilt and expressed remorse right? i kinda hope she gets back on her feet especially if she has done time for the crime

I’m glad she’s acknowledging that what she did was super fucked up and damaging.
I’m not really on board with her quasi “I’m cancelled” sentiment. But then again I’m tired of seeing people complain about a cancel culture that doesn’t really exist. Having a pilot that wasn’t picked up and dry spells in jobs are pretty common in Hollywood. Not sure if her dry spell is related to the cheating scandal, but my interpretation of what she’s saying feels more like “oh woe is me” instead of “I fucked around and found out”.

I think what she’s trying to say that she hasn’t had any job offers since the cancelled pilot and for an actor of her calibre that’s staggering. Her career has clearly suffered and may never recover. I didn’t read it as woe is me, she’s answering the question honestly and acknowledging the reality of it all.

I'm not seeing her complaining about being cancelled at all. Just acknowledging the consequences of her actions.

"I think the people I owe a debt and apology to is the academic community,"

I think ONTD University has something to think about 🤔

she can apologise by paying off ontd's student loans

The academic community is petty af and ONTD thrives on pettiness. I think that gives a clear answer to how ONTDU would respond

I actually have no sympathy for her lol. Alot of hard-working kids from low-income /working class families don't get in their dream colleges because of families like her who cheat the system and take their place.

And then the kids that do make it always get questioned as to how they got in. They get treated worse than the kids that got in because of rich parents.

Yup. Not to mention, the system is already stacked against those kids to begin with. On the other hand, rich kids get private tutors, their parents' usually have good relationships with the school administrations and teachers, they have the means to afford expensive after-school activities that look good on paper, and despite all that and all their privileges, they still cheat to get into college. It's disgusting.

Exactly. If she wasn't caught (like many rich people before her, undoubtedly) she wouldn't feel bad or sorry for shit.

I read the full interview in The Guardian and it's really uncomfortable. She's clearly expecting a tough discussion and is very guarded. The interviewer seemed to be gunning for her as well.

Stuff I learned:

She said she would never play a trans character again. It's particularly relevant as she's in a play by Taylor Mac called "Hir" (I had no idea that Taylor Mac's pronouns are "judy" (lowercase).)

She also discusses her friendship with David Mamet - he stuck up for her publicly - despite him being a huge Trumpian, which surprised me as I had no idea of his political leanings. The interviewer understandably asks how she feels about it, given her vocal support for the Democrats. Another squirmy moment ensues.

Why do people still want to work with Mamet after his comments on the don't say gay bill in Florida? I can't
