I had to do a double take to realize this season is indeed shorter than last, which made me concerned after last week that they're gonna try and wrap up the season really fast. Although there don't seem to be a lot of overarching plot threads this season so idk. Maybe it could happen. I haven't watched this weeks eps yet and i still love the show, but Ed and Stede as of last week seemed to be on friendly terms way faster than i expected (tbh i expected Ed would be trying to kill Stede until the season finale).
ETA I just want to add that I find it an odd choice to break up Jim and Olu but that could be me.

I'm really bummed about it and tbh I don't get the choice (unless the actors hate each other or something). If they're trying to do a poly plot, this season is so rushed because of the short episode order that it's not making sense, and if they're breaking them up period I don't understand why.
As always I can't comment yet bc I haven't seen the ep because I watch it at night on a movie projection with a group of fans, so I don't wanna spoil myself for these episodes, BUT I just wanna say one thing
Thanks to this show I have meet amazing fellow queer people to whom this show also represents a kind of beacon amongst the bullshit. Shit is rough right now, less than one week away from a life changing election that might leave us with a Trump-Bolsonaro-Incel hybrid as president, and women and queer people in my country are scared as fuck. This show is like, one of the few sources of joy for us at the moment. For that alone it's top tier for me.
I thought ep 7 was the last for S2 (I looked up the dates for when episodes come out and they stopped on Oct 19/ep7) and thought that was a weird place to leave the characters. 🤣
Weird pacing and one and done characters I didn't want to be one and done but I liked basically everything about the 2 eps.
Yeah the pacing has been weird this season which has thrown me off. I feel like the season is still gonna end by slamming into a brick wall at full speed.
I really wish they would have it set up to be a series finale just in case but with how this season has been going i can't see anything but it just be ending in the middle of something without tying up ends. I hope they get their planned 3rd season though since that was the original plan all along. A three season arc. This season has just been so fast!
I watched the episodes as I was having my morning coffee. It was...an intense way to start the morning, especially episode 6! LOL I'm a bit squeamish so it was a lot. That said, I'm impressed they've been able to pack so much character evolution in so few episodes. Can't believe it'll be the season finale next week!
Re character evolution, i kinda disagree outside Stede and Ed (and Izzy). A lot of the Jim/Olu/Zhang/Archie storyline evolution just exists and felt really forced to me and not a natural progression at all.
For sure, this season has shifted more to romantic plots, which outside of Ed and Stede and Lucius and Black Pete, we didn't need to go to that well. But I've enjoyed the crew dealing with the aftermath of the invasion and working through the trauma of that. It felt like they were bonding and growing, and that was an interesting perspective you wouldn't usually see in this type of historical narrative. Plus, Wee John in drag, Izzy seemingly evolving, Buttons going on a whole bird journey,... There has been a lot of tidbits for different people outside of Stede and Ed
( ... )
Now I'm sitting here wondering if Buttons and Swede were ditched for cost savings this season lmao. But tbh I didn't notice either of them gone, particularly Buttons after his bird journey. I just wish they gave some better attention to Jim/Olu rather than just kinda handwaving off any resolution from season 1 and just suddenly having them be with others with no resolution to their relationship from season 1. Besides them saying Olu can't stop talking about Zheng when he hasn't said a damned thing about her since they left her ship lmao.
