I agree with everyone that the pacing was way off, especially episode 6 felt so rushed!
Although I do have to say that I am so incredibly obsessed with Izzy. In ep 7 when [Spoilers] he came in the room to congratulate them over the sex, the SMILING when talking about Ed getting rid of his clothes, him comforting Stede at Spanish Jackies and even putting a hand on Stede's thigh were almost too much for me. I love that old angry weird little dude.
i know "couple gets together and they stay together and they're happy" is not really riveting television, but i have lost ALL OF MY PATIENCE for contrived romantic obstacles
It's not riveting TV for a romcom, I will just say that. It can be for other forms of TV, but not when it's supposed to be a romcom. It's just that they're getting into contrived foibles. As I said above, I was thinking it would take the entire season for Ed and Stede to get back together, but instead they got back together the second they were together in the same room for 5 minutes.
Actually I was also pleasantly surprised they didn't separate Ed and Stede for the whole season, which would have been a shame.
I had assumed we were going to see Ed want to pull away from piracy at some point though it came quicker than I thought. It seemed obvious Ed was finally happy not having the pirate life consume him anymore while Stede was embracing that life. They'll clearly be at a crossroads that is inevitably pulling them in different directions. 8 episodes is kind of short to tell that story; 10 episodes would have been much better.
I don't think it's contrived at all! Their literal first conversation after meeting in S1 was about Ed wanting to get out of piracy, and Stede wanting to get into it. Plus the acknowledgement a few episodes back on how whim prone both of them are, and they've both been bad at "talking it through" in the past. The incompatibilities in the lifestyles they want have been under the surface for a while, I'm interested to see how they'll resolve it.
Okay OP you so wrong for the dance of Joy gif especially since it took watching the trailers for this week SEVERAL times before recognizing Bronson Pinchot.
[Spoiler (click to open)]As someone HEAVILY invested in the Jim Archie Olu Zheng square dance I was both squeeing about Olu and Zheng reconciling but sad they were breaking up the background throuple, but then it seemed like all four of them were going to go with the Red Fleet which yay but also aww breaking up the crew but then everything went immediately to shit and faaaaaaaaaaack.
Stede with an ego is not a good thing. It makes sense story-wise from him but it was still hard to watch him get justifiably destroyed by Zheng.
Also nothing on earth could have prepared me for Izzy singing La Vie en Rose.
This just reminds me of how much it kinda sucked that the actors who made appearances at Comic Con last weekend couldn't talk about the show at all because of the strike. Stupid greedy AMTMP or whatever your money grubbing AI loving little acronym.
I'm betting ep 9 is a double length. There's too much in play
