the celebs using this for weight loss are truly demented and there will def be health consequences for them down the line - i don't get how in 2023 people still think they can cut corners like this, like semaglutide helps the pancreas produce insulin do they really think injecting diabetes meds just to look thin isn't going to come with long term side effects? a mess

Hmm yes and no. The effect is glucose dependent. So if you don't have too much glucose in your body, it's not doing anything at all. You don't just have more insulin circulating around your body as if you're injecting insulin. If that were the case, you'd see a million more cases about hypoglycemia

Also, just want want to mention a lot of non-diabetic people are deficient in GLP-1/incretin hormones.

If you take a drug you medically don't need at all that other people do and cause a shortage for them, getting sick from it is what you deserve.

The thing is, there are other medications useful for weight loss. There HAVE been. And you'd think the way society at large and a large part of the medical community keep going on about obesity being an epidemic, they'd be prescribing appropriate and safe medication to their obese patients who cannot lose the weight otherwise. For any reason. And that includes emotional and motivational reasons ( ... )

If it makes you feel better, I learned about this from a doc who's been talking to his colleagues about the way they treat their obese patients, and he said he's definitely not alone in his perspective.

Not trying to be shady but what successful weight loss drugs are there? I feel like everything that gets advertised is essentially a scam

lol i was recently accused of being an ozempic hoe (tho saxenda is the trendy one we’re I live)

but in reality is that i’ve been on phentermine since mid march and it has helped me drop more than 20 pounds- which is great because I am overweight with serious thyroid problems.
the thing is that i had to ask my doctor not to put me on any drug meant for people with diabetes- because I am not one- and that alone is concerning enough that even medical dieticians are prescribing these to their patients without running tests (because let’s be real fatphobia is a thing in every fucking medical field, specially towards women)

I can’t wait to be off of it because honestly i cannot stand the mouth dryness and lack of sleep anymore

My psychiatrist gave me Topamax for a short amount of time and you're right, the dry mouth is such an annoyance.

So you went on a medicwtion that is shown to be harmful for your heart instead?

Diabetic medications have been used off label for years.

Ozempic is also fine for weight loss. It’s just marketed as Wegovy but in higher doses.

I wish more people realized how dangerous phentermine is. Both of my sisters tried it to get off babyweight and experienced issues with their hearts for about a year after going OFF it.

Isn't this causing a shortage for people who actually need this medication? I appreciate the message about being honest, because yes people do see celebrities do that and then think that's achievable in a healthy way, but also didn't people need this medication that weren't just taking it for weight loss?

yeah, ozempic & mounjaro are to manage diabetes + weight loss. wegovy is just for weight loss, same exact drug as ozempic. except it's just for weight loss

Obese people are entitled to treatment for their chronic condition just as much as diabetics require treatment for their chronic condition.
