I hate that I don’t have Amazon. They have released some things I really wanna watch.

I loved Judy Blume growing up. I remember there being a decent number of us in the last post about this. Has anyone revisited her books as an adult? I’d like to get them for my nieces so I’m considering it.

I have, and while some things are dated they still hold up because the books still highlight issues that preteens/teens deal with today.

I remember that Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret was already dated when I read it (the example that has stuck with me are the old fashioned sanitary napkins worn with a belt), but I saw in one article that the publishers have updated some of the books with more current details like a copy machine instead of a mimeograph - I think the other example was technology related to music. Another article said that some kids who read the books like that they take place in a pre-cell phone world. But regardless of those kinds of details, I think the emotions that she captures are timeless - the conflict with your parents, feeling like you don't fit in and no one really understands you, etc. are all universal which is why kids still read these books that are 40-50 years old.

My generation was on the tail end of those sanitary napkins and can confirm that they were a pain in the ass. Bulky, fiddly to put on, the outline could be seen in certain outfits, and not the best thing for sports requiring tight outfits like gymnastics, iceskating, etc. Gym class was such a nightmare that "Sorry, I'm on my period" was a valid excuse to skip because the pads would shift around in your gym shorts. :( The smaller adhesive pads were such a game changer back then, you have no idea. My mom switched us over right away because I suspect she hated the belted napkins as much as we did (I grew up with two half sisters who were both older).

I love her books. I remember being in 6th grade and my friends and I sneakily reading Forever in the library.

Yes, Forever was so scandalous! My mom actually knew I had the book. She knew I loved Judy Blume and that I already had several of her books, so I think she assumed it was on the same level as her previous books. My parents never restricted what I could read so I doubt she would have tried to take away Forever even if she had known it contained teenage sex. I'd already read far more explicit books by then (one of my friends loaned me her copy of Hollywood Wives), but it was so great to read a book that depicted sex realistically and explicitly rather than the bodice ripper type euphemisms and romanticizing.

Omg YES! The copy of Forever from the library was always very worn and a bit sticky 😆 oh god, I remember hiding it under my bed.

What was the one about 2 friends and then a new friend showed up and there was talk of advanced math and a talking dog? I liked that one.

Just As Long As We're Together! I liked that one too. I only found out a few years ago that there was a sequel told from Rachel's point of view when I found a copy in a little free library. I'm glad I had a chance to read it, bur I liked the first book better.

Sandy Pressman is a nice suburban wife whose boredom is getting the best of her. She could be making friends at the club, like her husband keeps encouraging her to do. Or working on her golf game. Or getting her hair done.

But for some reason, these things don't interest her as much as the naked man on the motorcycle...

👀 How has this not been optioned by Hollywood already?

I just listened to are you there god on audiobook for the nostalgia 🥰 I have memories of a book where a girl is obsessed with the name “Benjamin Moore” after she saw it on a paint can but I couldn’t find the book on Libby.

The book with Benjamin Moore is Just As Long As We're Together. It's the same book with Jeremy Dragon!
