Judy Blume Forever, a documentary about Judy Blume which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, will begin streaming on Amazon on April 21. Bonus points for using the Linda Lindas in the promo video!

The upcoming movie adaptation of "Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret" starring Rachel McAdams and Kathy Bates will be released in theaters on April 28.

Judy Blume, who has sold over 90 million books, says that in the past, she was focused on writing her books so when various deals for tv and film adaptations fell through (including a Disney adaptation of Deenie which never happened and Aaron Spelling offered her $100,000 for “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret” and another $100,000 for “Then Again Maybe I Won’t”), she wasn't overly concerned. But now she says that she has written her last novel and is turning her attention to adapting her many works for large and small screens.

Other upcoming projects:
  • Forever is being adapted into a Netflix series by Mara Brock Akil (creator of Girlfriends, The Game, and Being Mary Jane)
  • Superfudge is being made into an animated film by Joe and Anthony Russo (“Avengers: Endgame”)
  • Summer Sisters is being produced by Jenna Bush Hager at Peacock (it was originally supposed to be a series on Hulu)
  • Mark Oppenheimer is writing her biography

Decades after Judy Blume first discussed translating her work to film and television, the Blume-aissance is upon us. All it needed was for her fans to take charge in the entertainment industry. https://t.co/nvMl9r6JfI

Some other tidbits:

Judy's new agent pitched the possibility of one studio having a huge collection of Judy Blume adaptations at a single streaming service. She said everyone was interested until they found out there was a price tag attached.

Many of her books (including Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Deenie, Then Again, Maybe I Won't, Blubber, Tiger Eyes, and Forever) have been banned or restricted in school libraries. In 1984, she appeared on Crossfire to discuss the topic. She responded to Pat Buchanan's attack by asking why he was so interested in masturbation.

She now owns a non-profit bookstore in Key West, Florida.

If you aren't familiar with her life story and overall career, this is an excellent overview:
