I hate that I don’t have Amazon. They have released some things I really wanna watch.

I loved Judy Blume growing up. I remember there being a decent number of us in the last post about this. Has anyone revisited her books as an adult? I’d like to get them for my nieces so I’m considering it.

I have, and while some things are dated they still hold up because the books still highlight issues that preteens/teens deal with today.

I remember that Are You There, God? It's Me, Margaret was already dated when I read it (the example that has stuck with me are the old fashioned sanitary napkins worn with a belt), but I saw in one article that the publishers have updated some of the books with more current details like a copy machine instead of a mimeograph - I think the other example was technology related to music. Another article said that some kids who read the books like that they take place in a pre-cell phone world. But regardless of those kinds of details, I think the emotions that she captures are timeless - the conflict with your parents, feeling like you don't fit in and no one really understands you, etc. are all universal which is why kids still read these books that are 40-50 years old.

My generation was on the tail end of those sanitary napkins and can confirm that they were a pain in the ass. Bulky, fiddly to put on, the outline could be seen in certain outfits, and not the best thing for sports requiring tight outfits like gymnastics, iceskating, etc. Gym class was such a nightmare that "Sorry, I'm on my period" was a valid excuse to skip because the pads would shift around in your gym shorts. :( The smaller adhesive pads were such a game changer back then, you have no idea. My mom switched us over right away because I suspect she hated the belted napkins as much as we did (I grew up with two half sisters who were both older).

Yes! Stuff like this is what I was wondering. I don’t need to get clowned by tweens.

Have you read Forever? I remain traumatized by the name Ralph 😆

The name Ralph still makes me snicker because of that book!

Same! My 13 year old lesbian self was both like "ew, guys do that?" while concurrently thinking "why choose such a bad name though?!" Other thoughts included: "rich people in Connecticut are weird, and not in a cool way" 😄

Agreeing with the lovely above commenter who said they’re a bit dated but the themes still hold up! I think they’d be a lovely gift for your nieces :)
