I still agree with Del Toro. We have to stop acting like 4-5 people alone make a movie, and considering the hell of the pandemic, the least the academy could do is properly honor their own.

but then i also agree with seth rogan than it's pretty fucking weird that the academy thinks everyone should care about their industry awards, when none of us stop everything for another's.

People who act like an Oscar is just another industry award are deluding themselves. They act like industry awards for dentists and accountants are just as interesting as an award show filled with celebrities and entertainers.

I actually don't like attitudes like Rogen cause trust me if The Disaster Artist gone farther in the award seasons and won his ass would be there!

Like he ain't gonna be there at the Emmys in Pam and Tommy get nominated! he will!

Yeah he would have been because as he said, it's his industry. Obviously people in the biz care about their own awards. That's not exactly a gotcha, because he said they matter to those in that industry. He didn't say he didn't care about awards and is above it, all while going to them like a number of rock stars have done over the years ( ... )

Such a weird time where people need attention so much they're crying about not giving/getting awards live on tv during the threat of nuclear war(or any time but not the point).

Idk I know where I am lol

The Grammys do this every year and I think they actually give most of the awards out in that pre-show thing they do and just use the show for the big categories. It always seemed like it kinda sucks for the people who win those but awards shows are already way too long.

The Grammys has so many categories, 84. The Oscars has 24. If The Academy had said "We plan to do this in the next year, cutting out some categories to be pre-broadcast." I would be okay with some people being upset, bc they at least have warning, but throwing it out after people are nominated feels slapdash and not taking the people who literally make content for your show into consideration.

That’s a good point! The Grammys have I think 100 categories so realistic you can’t air them all. I’ve watched the pre-telecast before and it’s at least 3-4 hours iirc.

I honestly stopped watching The Grammys regularly when they started doing that. It's not like most of the performances are so good they make up for it, there's usually only 1-2 standouts a year.

Garbage. Watching old Oscars clips on YouTube is so refreshing. The fluff feels on point, rather than forced garbage to compliment the hosts’ day job.
