Yeah he would have been because as he said, it's his industry. Obviously people in the biz care about their own awards. That's not exactly a gotcha, because he said they matter to those in that industry. He didn't say he didn't care about awards and is above it, all while going to them like a number of rock stars have done over the years.

But it's also so narcissistic of Hollywood to think we all have to care about their awards. Especially when we don't expect anyone to give a fuck about any other industry. Hell even the Nobel awards that usually, but not always, actually mean that a person has done something truly extraordinary in contribution to humanity, science, or the arts aren't treated in a manner where anyone expects the world to stop, and come together for a 3 hour circle jerk. That the oscars somehow has actual meaning in the lives of the public vs a passive one for some fans is very narcissistic. They are industry awards, and not everyone is into celeb worship and not a lot is gained by the average person living their lives with all of their struggles, but someone who has more money than sense had a look on the red carpet. It's weird to demand, as hollywood always has, for everyone to care about everything they say and do cause they said so.

It's not narcissistic of the Oscars since no one is forcing you to watch. The only people paying close to attention to these developments are people in interested in movies. Regular people are not concerned here. Plus people like the escapism of the red carpet. Even people who don't care about awards but like fashion will tune in or be following it on social media.
