I thought the same thing. There was no drama when Gaga wore it at the Oscars that year.

On the heels of black is king this was not a good look at all

But I keep seeing so much conflicting info about Basquiat which is confusing

His living relatives (who never supported him when he was alive) and his estate are messy as hell and make Selena's father seem reasonable. I admit that as a fan it's nice to get more licensed things; the problem is they license all types of cheap shit that would have the real Basquiat twirling in his grave because they're all blatant money grabs.

Exactly; he would never, unless he was still alive and actually making one-of-a-kind designs on bags for the subversiveness. The Brant Museum were also selling jogging pants for $100. :/ I can understand the Kidrobot and Dr. Marten collaborations but a lot of the stuff recently is just no.

✨AFRICA✨ was an aesthetic for her to commodify, never a declaration of pan-africanist solidarity.

They are not wrong but I have to roll my eyes that people have to have that spelled out for them.

She’s a global superstar not a political or social activist. Everything she does is first and foremost for herself/brand/sales.

It’s an aesthetic and mood for her in the moment until she moves on to the next thing.…which is going back to her true roots!! Yeehaw agenda 🤠 🐎 #wildwildwestyoncé

She’s a global superstar not a political or social activist.

True but when you insert yourself in that narrative, with whatever focus you want, you have to know you'll be expected to give a message or act on it.

Oh I agree but I also think people need to wise up and not take 100% to heart. It’s branding and sales first.

That’s why I also rme when celebs do this. It’s a temporary aesthetic. I actually tend to sometimes respect apolitical celebs a bit more cause at least they ain’t pretending to be something they are not. They’re like “I’m only here to make you dance and get in the zone with me”…I’m cool with that.

On the one hand, where was this outrage when Gaga wore the diamond?
On the other hand, I understand why people expected more from Beyoncé after Black is King.
