Yeah, I'm a huge Bey fan but that doesn't mean that she gets to just escape criticism when it's valid. It's very frustrating watching her choose capitalism and greed over pro-blackness over and over again.

I also feel like the most important part of being a fan is the ability to hold faves accountable too. Doesn't mean we adore them less, just that things that need to be said are.

In my personal life, I've noticed that people are willing to hold others accountable if they're not friends with the person or they're better friends with the person needing to be held accountable than the person who was harmed. It's really grating.

that statement abt the diamond is hilarious as is tina thinking ppl just randomly own diamonds. i thought we all killed the diamond industry by buying too many avocado toasts?

Eh, that wasn't my issue with the statements cuz lots of people do have diamonds even if they're teeny ones. It's that this is a freaking world famous diamond that ANYONE who has access to the internet can do just like a 10 second bit of research on. It's not just a rando engagement ring diamond, or a pair of small diamonds on your ears that you bought at the mall.

I had the same thought, very “how much does one banana cost? $10?” vibes

I truly laughed like....taking that angle is so funny because people have been talking about blood diamonds and alternatives to diamonds for engagement rings for like....SO LONG now. I know a lot of people do still just not give a fuck but also those people probably are not the ones hassling Beyonce now so like....I dunno who she thinks she's swinging for there.

Oh, because other diamonds where extracted by well-paid miners (all above 18 of course!), under safe and secure rules ?

"Beyoncé's reps have stated that “Beyonce is aware of the criticism and is disappointed and angry that she wasn’t made aware of questions about its history. She thought that every final detail had been vetted, but now she realizes that the diamond itself was overlooked.”"

How did it take twitter 2 seconds to point out the hypocrisy, but nobody on her team caught it beforehand?

To be honest, having seen how our comms people at the very large organization I work at operate...incompetence knows no bounds lol

they unlocked the code with "the diamond itself was overlooked," honestly can't wait to be on that level of incompetence

I like Beyonce, but I don't like this statement. It feels like she is about to blame her team ("somebody's getting fired") when she, herself, should also take accountability for her own brand/business. "She wasn't made aware" ... that's on her.

There are so many "controversies" surrounding this shoot it's ridiculous. First, it was because this particular Basquiat painting has not been seen or photographed in a long time which lead to people thinking that B and J were endorsing Basquiat's Estate (which is known for shady things). Then, it's this blood diamond (which I admit is a valid criticism). Then, it was something about her dress and them clouting over their "unobtainable lifestyle." A lot of it is just criticism for the sake of criticism so I pretend I do not see it.
