Lucie Arnaz settles the Nicole Kidman vs. Debra Messing casting choice in Lucy/Desi biopic

Since ONTD has been wondering what on earth production was thinking with these casting choices....

Lucie Arnaz, Lucy and Desi Arnaz's daughter, addressed this topic in two posts from her official facebook page.

In this first video post back in January, Lucie addressed specifically why Nicole Kidman was chosen over Debra Messing:

i'm very sure at any point in her marriage Lucy could move every part of her face. are they going to show Lucy acting at all and if so will they just use real life clips since Nicole literally can't do what Lucy did.

i literally can't think of one movie where she's been in a leading role that resulted in big money other than moulin rouge

To Die For also did pretty decent, and Eyes Wide Shut, and especially "The Others." She's an excellent actress, true, but she's ruined her ability to emote with all the damn Botox. It's a real shame.

What comedy films has nicole done? i remember bewitched and the stepford wives but I don't remember her being particularly funny in them.

I’m actually one of the few people who did not hate bewitched lmaoo (I have zero attachment to the show and thought the movie was stupidly fun, but tbf, I have not seen it seen I was a teen), but her “nose wiggle” was hysterical

I guess I have doubts that Debra could pull off the dramatic aspects, and I have doubts Nicole can pull off the comedy? lol oh dear

Could’ve cast them both and just switch them out depending on the scene lol

I think Debra can pull it off. Will & Grace had some serious scenes and she can pull it off well.

Grace's huge blowup with Will when she began seeing Leo when they were supposed to have a baby together comes to mind.

But I think casting Debra in the film probably won't shake off the Grace character.

That and Debra is pretty vocal about politics. Sometimes more than she should be.

MTE exactly on all counts! I was gonna try to post the argument scene from WAG bc that scene always gets me. and honestly I feel like the "essence of a person" referred to in this video is a nice way of saying Debra is too outspoken and probably has bad will for her political rants lol.

I don't need to see the script to know the look is all wrong and Nicole, as much as I like her, can barely emote anymore, something pretty important when portraying a woman who was known for her range of facial expressions.
