Thanks flippa *hugs back*
I've got an appointment now (see Edit), but the DDA doesn't help me when I'm so anxious I can hardly talk. I could challenge their policy when I am feeling strong though.

That's quite the list of achievements, I must say. And a great deal to be grateful for as well. *pat on back*

As for the bad news portion of this. Um....WTF?! That's so utterly..... I'm at a loss for words. *mutter*

*HUGS*

GRAH to receptionists being fobby-offy.

For next time, though - I'm not sure you actually have to tell them WHY you need an emergency appointment. Just say you need an emergency appointment. If they question that, say you phoned NHS Direct and were advised to get an emergency appointment with a GP (I have done this before, although only when I've actually phoned NHS Direct and been so advised).

With the system my doctor has, you have to call the doctor's surgery and wait for a doctor to call you back and see if it is a 'real' problem. Apparently their policy is designed to filter out neurotics like me. It would even filter out the psychotics. Great.
