DPP: Mind the Gap!

Oct 12, 2012 09:42

It's been a really great week full of fun discussion so far, so thank you all! Today I thought maybe we could talk about those times when our pilots were apart or just not focused on by canon very much. What were they doing in these time periods? Do you have certain head canon about them? Did they keep in touch (if they were physically separated)? ( Read more... )

Kara writes letter to Lee explaining everything, her involvement in Zak's death, her feelings for Lee, her past with her mother that she never sends because she can't tell anyone else.

Interesting. When does she write it? What state of mind is she in when she does it?

I love the idea that Kara doesn't really open up very much to anyone when she's first on the Galactica so she writes to Lee when she needs a break from being Starbuck-life of the party. I imagine there are lots of letters, like diary entries. Also she always planned on burning them, but then the worlds end and she hasn't ever done that part. She takes them to New Caprcia and loses them there during the exodus.

While Kara was on Caprica and Lee was on Galactica

well, he wasn't mad at her anymore but didn't realise it until she jumped away with the raider (he used her name over the comms instead of her callsign/rank like he does when he's angry with her) and then seriously kicked himself for it, but then along came the order to arrest Laura (who'd told Kara to steal the Raider) and he can't bring himself to do it. And then along comes his mutiny, arrest, PapAdama getting shot and their escape (and I bet he wished Kara was with them during the toaster boarding in S2, too).

Kara is pretty thoroughly beaten down by life even as she lands on Caprica - she was not happy about the way things were left with Lee but she was also determined to focus on her mission and forget about their blowup, and Anders was a handy distraction along the way.

The weeks after Kara shot Lee by accident in Sacrifice

I think she was so guilt-ridden over it that she never went to see him while he was recovering, because she felt she didn't have any right to do so and it was Dee's place, not hers. (and this is not entirely disconnected from what happened in Scar with the near-frak either - I definitely believe Kara felt guilty about how that went down, even if she doesn't admit it to herself). But she definitely kept herself updated by asking Cottle and the medics how he was doing, even if she couldn't go see him herself.

For Lee, on the other hand, Sacrifice had the tentative first date with Dee....but after he got shot, she was always there for him even when his best friend wouldn't come to see him. Cue things developing further with Dee in Kara's absence...

The time between Kara leaving Pegasus to be Galactica's CAG and the rescue mission to save the Resistance

In my head, a huge part of why the rescue mission went through at exactly that point in time was because Lee backed it as Commander of Pegasus - before that, Adama and Roslin had been vetoing it for months and even after the Pegasus first got there, why would they suddenly give it the go-ahead if there wasn't someone else giving them a push to do so? Especially when it's someone who publicly shows support for a mission that isn't even being planned on his ship?

also, the rescue mission go-ahead happens after Razor, according to chronological order of events so the double dose of guilt for nearly ordering Kara's death and the belief that they can't ever be together (after the events of Scar) because she wants someone else and also because he's dating Dee by then are part of what push Lee into supporting Kara's rescue plan, even if he doesn't actually say that to her.

Ship to Ship by brynnmck is my trufax head canon for part of that time. The whole Razor and where that fits in sort of messes it up but I'm going to stubbornly stick to this because Commander Stalker and Chet are my favorite version of pilots.

I laugh out loud when I get to Commander Stalker and Chet. Like I can't re-read with anyone else in the room. In fact, I giggled just reading Chet. Chet is funny. hehehee.
