DPP: Mind the Gap!

Oct 12, 2012 09:42

It's been a really great week full of fun discussion so far, so thank you all! Today I thought maybe we could talk about those times when our pilots were apart or just not focused on by canon very much. What were they doing in these time periods? Do you have certain head canon about them? Did they keep in touch (if they were physically separated)? ( Read more... )

The months after rescuing the Resistance and before the Groundbreaking on New Caprica

well, they were on separate ships - Kara as Galactica CAG, Lee over at Pegasus - so may not have got to see as much of each other - but the beginning of that period starts with Lee pretty much giving up on Kara and focusing his relationship efforts on Dee, while Kara, who can't deal with knowing about Lee's feelings for her, throws herself into things with Sam, who's moved down to the planet surface.

But as time goes on, pilots see more of each other, what with Lee taking frequent shuttles to Galactica to report to his dad/see Dee, and sparks start flying with Kara again. Even if they just stick to eyefrakking and joking. After one particularly memorable round of this, Kara decides that she needs to move planetside while things with Lee are still happy and jokey and things with Sam are still good...and she tells Lee that she's moving.

I wrote a bit of comment!fic once (gods only know where) about how he was isolated on Pegasus and she'd go over to spar with him - which was just as fraught as anything ever was between them, even if they both had lovers. And then after she rejected him on NC, he couldn't bring himself to go anywhere near the gym or her memory. :)

The months between Groundbreaking Day and the cylons coming back

They actually snapped all ties with each other - Kara goes back to Galactica once to get all her things and half-hopes to see Lee but doesn't get to, instead she bumps into Dee who's all happy and glowing while she packs to move to Pegasus, and who tells her about Lee's proposal. Not long after, Kara learns from Laura (who's still in touch with the Admiral) that Lee got married, and it hurts to know but she refuses to think about it.

Lee married Dee within weeks, if not days, of Kara's marriage, and tries to be a good husband to her but he's miserable because Kara left him and even Dee can sense that, and with nothing much to do because everyone's moving planetside, he takes to noodles.

While Kara was stuck in the dollhouse and Lee was blowing his diet

I suspect this was a time of a lot of refusing to think about each other but dwelling on what happened between them anyway.

There's a cut scene from one of the NC episodes where Kara nearly commits suicide. I always some part of her despair was really that she'd given up hope he was coming back for her.

I've also thought that she must've thought about all the bridges she'd burned and wondered if Lee would even try to rescue her. :(

They were back on the same ship but not speaking to each other anymore (especially Lee) except when work required them to, for an entire five months. Which is why Kara took her suspicions about the fake escape from Hero to Tigh and not Lee, which is what she would have done before Groundbreaking Day.

The period between UB and the Eye of Jupiter

They were finally back to being friends and having each other's backs again (and quite a bit of time passed between UB and The Passage, since we see all their scars from the dance had faded/disappeared by then), but not without crazy amounts of UST.

The whole ship noticed their repaired relationship, but it wasn't until after Kat's death that the affair actually started, with Lee trying to console Kara over Kat's loss and it suddenly turning into something...else. Of course, afterwards Kara was all bright and chipper/pretended that what they'd done wasn't really an emotional thing for her, and Lee went along with it until he couldn't.

So, this and the post-affair, pre-Maelstrom bits make of most of the story that I posted a snippet of yesterday. I just need to finish and then you'll know what I think happened ;)
