I to have always wondered about the water issue. I used to assume that Cloud was just standing on a raised area of land...like a sandbar (is that what they call them?) that extended from one edge towards the middle and that he just released Aeris over the edge. As far as Advent Children with Kadaj and the children walking into it...well, that I do not know how to explain. It is interesting indeed.

Do you think perhaps the whole thing about Aerith and everything is more symbolic, and the phone as well? I was thinking maybe Square did it purposely to give the idea that she would end up very far away from them in the end...

Yesnomaybe?

Hey that is a very clever way of looking at it. The way the cell phone sank, indicating she's gone far away, very cool, indeed. Now that you mention it, Advent Children is full of symbolism. Rufus being cured of Geostigma, and made a very good psychical recovery indicates to me that he has been forgiven by the planet. Oh and one of our members clocksareevil mentioned that Aerith walking out of the church is a symbol for Cloud finally letting her go. So yeah, FF7 is full of symbolism. :D

The only issue I have with the phone scene is that it was given a very weird timestamp in the AC timeline - 3:30 AM on the second day. However, Cloud loses the phone at 9:30 PM on the first day meaning that if the timeline is correct, that phone had been falling for 6 hours....

Obviously, it is far more important for it's symbolic weight, but you have to question logistics like that, don't you?

Yeah, lots of people have noticed the pond depth difference. I mean, come on, she floats down several feet! And he's just standing there. (Dead bodies float, though...)

About the cannon direction. My impression was that it wasn't in fact straight, but I had always assumed that ShinRa had thought the Ray's beam would take a slight turn of degrees when hitting Diamond WEAPON. Then again, I guess Squaresoft didn't make their maps perfect.

That's a good point as well. Dead bodies do float for a good while before finally sinking. And I can't imagine Cloud holding Aerith in his arms, filling her up with water, until she finally sank. That would have taken a good while.

That's true; maybe the beam did take a slight turn. But I still find it weird. I like your second explanation a bit better. Perhaps Squaresoft did mess-up on the maps. That is more likely, lol. :P

The planet also curves, a flat map is not a good representation of a globe. I learnt that in geography class *grumble* nice time it gave me on tests too...

I always assumed it was a hole in the lake leading to the underwater part of the Ancient City. When you go underneath the seashell thing there's this area that's like a bubble or something, and there's water all around it.

Yeah, my good friend was thinking the same thing. I do recall the area underneath the seashell. So I can see how it is related to where Aerith's body lies.

So, really, I would love it if someone could explain to me how that scene is even possible....

You have a very keen mind, I'll say.

My theory has always been that, like mistress_yuna said, that there is a type of "sandbar" amongst the pond. I'm sure, like most ponds, there is no such flat bottom. It's all just a sifting pile of dirt here and there. I believe that he stood right at the trench's edge and dropped Aerith in, while Kadaj did the same and the children stood at the other end of the trench's opening. Kadaj and the children were not necessarily nose-to-nose, so it is to give the idea that perhaps such a thing existed beneath their feet. I don't agree with the idea that so much light (the scene when Aerith floats down is quite bright, and all) could reach down in such a deep trench, but that's for discrepencies ( ... )

Hey, thank you very much. That made my day! :)

Maybe there is a sandbar for them to stand on. I agree, the idea of a flat bottom is quite unlikely. I just wish they didn't display it in such a weird way, lol. Then again, if it was displayed correctly, then we wouldn't be having such a great discussion. Now here is what's interesting. Cloud's cell phone drops at the very edge of the pond. So it makes you wonder how it was able to sink so fast, unless the sandbar goes downwards, and the phone was pushed down by the waves, or sifting sand. Lol...what a cool topic. :)

Now that is a very great explanation. The beam was pretty wide...I totally overlooked that point. Now that I think of it, the beam did make a pretty big hole through WEAPON. Thanks for posting such a great explanation. It makes allot of sense. :D

Hi, not exactly commenting on the topic of errors in FF7 (which the producers have stated quite clearly in the making of AC that they didn't really want realistically doable things in the movie; but rather, as long as it looks cool), I just wanted to point out that the icon you're using... well, you're attributing it to the wrong creator.

Simply put, I made the icon. You credited it to madre'>? Go <a href=here to see the post where I posted this icon.

I honestly hope it's just a crediting mistake and not someone stealing my stuff. Thanx.
