As you all probably notice by now, I enjoy thinking of how a Final Fantasy game wouuld be if a major event never occurred, for example what if Seifer passed his SeeD exam in the beginning of Final Fantasy 8. Did you ever wonder how much FF8 would have changed if Seifer was to become a SeeD? Well let's take a look of the possible changes. Since

Nah just kidding, I think you hit the nail on the head with that one, I agree totally

I am happy to hear that you agree with me. This is one debate I am very confident about. :)

Rinoa's affections staying with Seifer seems a given - if Seifer was leading the Timber mission it'd give her no reason to pay Squall any extra attention. If she doesn't pay him any extra attention then she's obviously not trying to work on bringing him out of his shell so Squall has far less reason to develop any interest in her either.
As for Squall going lone wolf... well I can't comment on that, I honestly tend to concentrate on issues that are outgrowths of pairings really, because I am a total romancefic fangirl (not to mention an almost total yaoi fangirl - at least certainly in this fandom where I have never latched onto any het pairings really hard).

I see where you are getting at. Since Rinoa would be took hooked on Seifer, she would not really give him the attention that she normally does end up giving. So in a way, Squall probably would not even be jealous. I mean he sure did treat Rinoa pretty hard in the beginning of the game. Epically when it came to Squall's ring.
Romantic stuff huh, ok..I'll keep that in mind. It's ok you had nothing much to say on the matter. Thanks for commenting though. :)

I supose I just like to play with ideas that pre-supose that the game happened as per usual - post-game events. I have once considered vaguely that idea of Laguna finding Squall early but it messes with a lot of stuff because frankly the game has a really tight plot that if you pull out too many of the main details the rest falls down completely (it has a paradox - if Squall hadn't fought Ultimecia and accidentally ended up going back to the Orphanage when she died, there would be no SeeD for him to be a part of and direct him onto the path to fight Ultimecia).

Oh yes, they to had a huge effect on Squall's emotions. Maybe the relationship between Squall and Rinoa would have never worked out as it did, if Zell and he others where not there. Good point you made.
True that, though Rinoa would not really be romantically involved with Squall, she would still try and pry him out of his shell.
Lol, that would be kind of funny if Seifer beat up Squall for hitting on his girl. Thanks for commenting. ;)

(apparently I really like this topic because I almost doubled the maximum word count...)All that being said though...I think, ultimately, the plot would have worked out as it did in-game even if Seifer *had* become a SeeD, because the game is set in a time loop. It was through his relationship with Rinoa that Squall was able to become the person that he was, and the person who was able to journey into the future and take on Ultimecia--that person *had* to be Squall, and not Seifer, because it was Squall who returned to the Orphanage and gave Edea the idea for the Gardens. And after the final battle, the reason Squall was able to find his way to the Orphanage, was because of the promise he and Rinoa made, to return to that spot if they were ever separated--it was that promise, and that memory, that Squall held onto when he was running through compressed time, eventually ending up in Edea's courtyard ( ... )

I'm always happy to discuss Final Fantasy VIII. ^^
I disliked Selphie at first too, but now I think she's cute and bubbly. ^^ And I really like the interaction between her and Irvine.
I'm glad to have brought up some good points too. ^^
