What if Seifer passed his SeeD exam?

As you all probably notice by now, I enjoy thinking of how a Final Fantasy game wouuld be if a major event never occurred, for example what if Seifer passed his SeeD exam in the beginning of Final Fantasy 8. Did you ever wonder how much FF8 would have changed if Seifer was to become a SeeD? Well let's take a look of the possible changes. Since ( Read more... )

Definitely an interesting point and certainly one I never really thought about before.

If Seifer passed the SeeD exam and went on the Timber mission, I definitely think that he and Rinoa would hook up again. And I say good. (I'm rather anti-Rinoa and pro-Squall ^^) I don't know but they seemed a more. . . conventional couple than she and Squall.
I do think, however, that Seifer would have likely still side with Edea. Certainly his dream was to be SeeD, and his romantic dream was to be a Sorceress' Knight. I don't think that his failing the SeeD exam would be the only reason for his siding with her. For one he was manipulated, another is that he has that romantic dream (which probably made him an easy target for her), and finally: His continuous rivalry with Squall. It's always irked him that Squall seemed to be his equal, if not his better, at everything. There's always been that competition between the two, and so siding with the sorceress gave him that advantage in power. Sort of a way to prove himself I guess.

As for Squall doing the lone wolf thing. . . honestly I can't really see it. To be honest, he doesn't seem the type to go all out for a girl he just met. If Seifer had passed and had been at the ball even, chances are Rinoa would have never approached Squall, and though while they may have seen each other, Squall doesn't seem to me like he'd go up to her and strike up a conversation. In the end? I think he'd have stayed more or less the same. And I agree with chaosperfected in that he's always had the Orphanage Crew. Sure Rinoa brought him out of his icy shell (more like forced. . .), but the crew had their share in that too. It's part of his character progression through the game that he begins to realize just how important all of these people are to him, and so he fights to protect them.

Like I said though, I'm very anti-Rinoa, she's probably my least favorite game character of all time. ^^; So I've managed to pick up story elements that I like from the game. In fact, VIII is my favorite Final Fantasy (shocking I know), but even I can say that the love story of it is . . .well, kind of weak and out of place. It just doesn't seem to fit with Squall's demeanor.

(. . . I totally went off on a tangent there. ^^; )

I’m happy to hear you really like this topic. This might be my best topic yet. :)

I am with you there; I do prefer Seifer and Rinoa over Squall and Rinoa. Yeah, I now realize that even if Seifer was to pass his SeeD exam, there is still a huge chance that he would have still joined Edea. I totally overlooked the rivalry thing. He did hate seeing Squall as his equal, therefore sided with Edea to finally stretch the once small gap between them. Very good pint you made, I can’t believe I overlooked that major point.

Your second point does make more sense then my first impression. I should have realized the fact that Squall had no feelings for Rinoa at the time, so he would have just left the two alone. I’m sure Rinoa would have still forced him out of his shell, in a friendly way, of course. I wonder if Squall would have dated Quistis instead. He didn’t seem to like her that much anyway. So perhaps Squall would have just remained quiet, like you said.

I didn’t mind if you expressed your dislike of Rinoa, not problem at all. At first, I didn’t like Selphie that much. She was way to hyper for me, lol. But I eventually started to like her. In fact, I always thought Selphie and Seifer were going to hook up. In fact, I still think Selphie has a little something for Seifer, but I digress. :P As for Rinoa, I just hated how she wanted the best for everyone, but always had something negative to say about everybody’s way of achieving it, plus she kept things inside a bit to much. But, I eventually overlooked those minor features, and began to like her as well. :)

Thanks for posting. Sorry I took a while; my holiday took up all my time. I’ll e updating the community, hopefully today. It’s good to be back.

And we're glad to have you back.
I'm always happy to discuss Final Fantasy VIII. ^^

I disliked Selphie at first too, but now I think she's cute and bubbly. ^^ And I really like the interaction between her and Irvine.

I'm glad to have brought up some good points too. ^^
