It turns out that mirror-selves are much more likely to listen to you if you point your laser screwdriver at them.

All right, I only did that once, when he tried to climb out. The rest of it was just reasoning with him. I didn't trust him to do a proper switch so that I could investigate the Shadow City myself, but he did explain a few conclusions ( Read more... )

Rain was wearing the nicer of her two pairs of jeans and a plain blue long sleeved shirt. She didn't really have any dressy clothes to wear except the very fancy dresses Mat had gotten for her and she didn't think those would be appropriate.

She didn't have any trouble finding Maitre's - no, Harry's house. At least she thought it was his house. She knocked a little nervously and waited to see who would answer.

Hearing the door, the Master quickly swallowed his bite of scone, wiped his mouth, and headed for the door.

"Hello," he said, smiling as he opened it. "It's nice to meet you properly, Rain. Do come in and sit down."

Rain smiled at him shyly. "It was very kind of you to invite me."

She came inside, looking around, almost as if looking for escape routes - nothing to do with Harry, being inside with not enough ways out still made her rather anxious.

"That was a strange weekend, wasn't it?"

"No trouble at all, Rain, I mean it."

As it is a flat, and one on the third floor of the building, there might not be the best number of escape routes in the place. Unless she chooses to break through a window, the door where she came in is pretty much it.

The Master walked over to the couch, waiting to sit down until she did herself. "It really was. A very convincing curse."

That's probably true. I lucked out, in that case. I know me.

I know all weren't so fortunate. I saw the Network. So many lies and so many people listening to them.

Last year it was candy hearts with our secrets on them. Good times.

Were the hearts at least edible?

Got a name that isn't Master? 'Cos try that on me now and see how far it gets you.

[ she is merely setting boundaries. And possibly acting out her frustration. That too. ]

Said they were candy, didn't I?

I need a new mirror, myself. I would've liked to know more about this other city, but not at the cost of being trapped there. I wonder what the Clock looks like over there.

And the hearts last year were pretty brutal. Plenty of things popped up that nobody wanted the City to know.

Enjoy the weekend, Mister Saxon?

I couldn't make myself go look at that. He'd only bother with what was in the visible room: incredibly annoying.

But the weekend...yes, I did. Very much so. What about you?

It doesn't sound as if any of the mirror images were terribly accommodating, actually. Terrible curse all around.

Thought you might have, especially since the curse gives you immunity for your actions, now that it's over. I enjoyed it, too- a little more than I was expecting.
