On my way home from work, an enormous green terrier sprang on me from behind, picked me up in its mouth, and shook me like a rat. There doesn't seem to be an end to the City's surprises. At least I was finally given a break from the curses: absolutely nothing happened to me on Wednesday. Of course, it would be for a curse almost whimsical in its ( Read more... )

Enormous green terrier? Really? Are you okay?

Aww, what a sweet kitten! Masha's a perfect name for her.

I'm as surprised as you are. And I'm quite alright; it stopped shaking me before it could cause any real damage.

Thank you. Please, feel free to come over and meet her, I'm told it's a good idea for her to socialise. Besides that, I really ought to have you over for tea some time anyway.

Come to think of it, though, giant green terriers aren't the weirdest things around here. I'm glad you're okay.

Really? I'd love to meet her and visit you when you're not bleeding to death.

Thank you. It's almost odd that it didn't choose to injure me. I'm sure it had the ability to. It caught me totally by surprise.

Feel free to tell me and come over any time you'd like: even this afternoon. My work schedule is extremely flexible, so I can be free almost any time you are.

Thank you. I certainly thought so.

Did you have to go to the hospital?

I almost ended up adopting a cat just like that once.

No, I was a little bit jarred, and my back hurts quite a bit right now, but otherwise, I came out of it unharmed.

Almost?

Yes, I escaped mostly unscathed.

How unfortunate. Masha's really quite friendly, though. Almost stupidly so, in fact, so perhaps she might be the exception that proves the rule?

There is still very likely a purpose behind it. There often is in the City, I find.

Yes, I remember you in an odd, not actually talking to you sort of way. It's nice to meet you properly this time. I'm Harry, hello.

She doesn't seem to mind anything.

How... cute. I'm sure she'll make an excellent companion for you.

Yes, I certainly thought so. She's very well-behaved, for a cat. It took hardly any time to teach her to learn from her mistakes.

Actions of hers that either annoy me, or put her in harm's way. She no longer tries to scratch the furniture. Or to make friends with irritable pigeons.
