Stuff and a Poll!

Okay, it's time for one of those "yes, I am alive" posts. Yes. I am alive. However, I've been fending off a killer sinus infection for about 4 weeks now. I've gone the antibiotic/narcotic route twice and, honestly, coming out of that funk is bad enough… so I'm just winging it right now and trying to get rest, blah, blah ( Read more... )

thank yous, writing, pimping, recs, pointless rambling, poll

My favorite Hewligan pairing is Brendan/Emmet

I thought there already was a Hewligan community? Did someone delete it? Or maybe I'm thinking about sga_6degrees. It's always thought of it as a Hewligan community even if it technically isn't.

Thanks for that - I'd never heard of sga_6degrees. The one I did know about was hewligan_100, and that's a fic comm based on a prompt table - though loosely, I'm sure. Hmmm, gives me a little more to think about.

Personally, I'd prefer a dedicated comm for Hewligan. The 6degrees comm is technically open to any other roles by any actor in SGA and any pairing. :-)

Technically yes, but since 99% of sga 6 degrees fic is Hewligan, it's sometimes hard to remember. ;)

But then I've always thought that the fewer competing comms, the better. It makes it easier for new people coming into the fandom and it eliminates annoying cross-posting issues.

I saw that you were leaving for a while, too. Boy, when RL decides to act up, it really does put a crimp in the fandom life. But I'm glad to see you back. Haven't yet seen your reaction to the SPN finale - and I'm still sorting it out myself - so I've got that to look forward to. There are only a few people in that fandom I feel comfortable with and you are the main one. I've actually listened to a few SPN podfics, but I haven't (and probably won't) jump in whole hog. I'm not a Wincest girl or a J2 girl, but I do see the lovely potential for unlimited and stomach-twisting UST between Dean and Cass, though I'd probably be more of a gen or cannon reader. I love the show just for the sheer fun and pleasure of watching ( ... )

"I have also come to accept that I tend to gravitate toward fic and fiction that is very emotionally bare and raw and that's just not everyone's happy place."

But it's YOUR happy place, and that's what is important. Plus, when you write that emotionally bare and raw fic, it soars above the ordinary. I've read death fic for you, and loved it.

So, basically, I guess what I'm trying to say is - be true to yourself, young grasshopper! And we will read and savor all your words.

Promise.

ETA: Yes, on the Hewligan thing. It's one step closer to original fic, as you have so much room to add in backstory and are less constrained by canon. *nudges you toward the OF*

Thank you for your most kind words and sage advice. I think I've been coming to this place for a long, long time and I've finally just removed those fetters. Honestly, that's probably what started the flow of ideas again and my desire to face my fears with Alex and Worth and get their story done.

You know, that's what I love about Hewligan - and what I'd love to see from others - ideas about backstory and how two seemingly unrelated or mis-matched characters could get together and be happy. It does give the writer some wiggle room with canon and I can't wait to see if others will jump in the pool with me.

I'm sorry that you haven't been well. *hugs*

Please do keep writing because you need your happy place (and your tough stories hit hard and sometimes that's just the ticket.)

Although I haven't written any Hewligan yet, I do enjoy reading it and I think writing isn't far away for me. :-D

Thanks, hon. It's been a struggle this time, but I feel like I'm finally getting through it.

I do hope you'll join in writing Hewligan soon. I love that you can take two seemingly mis-matched characters and find a way to put them together that not only feels plausible, but can get the reader rooting for them. And like I said, these two guys just have a certain chemistry whether it's John and Rodney or Brendan and Emmett or... It's a fun way to stretch as a writer, but I can speak from experience that you really get wrapped up in your pairings. But that's what I'd love to see happen.
