It was really, really nice to see Heath again. Even as the Joker. And what a performance. Jesus Christ, that was creepy. It was not him. Heath was gone. At no point, none, did he remind me of any of his characters, of himself, anything ( Read more... )

Hell, the PREVIEWS for the movie scare me sideways. There's one clip where the Joker is leaning out of a car and he's just so way out there. So odd but awesome.

But anyway, the perfect Joker is always playing for an audience, even when there isn't one. If choosing between a non-fatal hilarious joke and a boring murder, he'd have doubts about which way to go. Because, hey, funny.

I found the snarl unsettling in that scene because one second he's teasing the poor guy like you'd tease a small child, then the next second it's rage.

I could go on and on, but y'know... spoilers.

That's exactly it. Zero to psycho, and it came out of nowhere.

Jesus. That actually was, for me, one of the most disturbing moments. Other stuff bothered me or worried or upset me, but that actually pushed the fear button, and with this genre of thing that is very, very hard to do because I'm super-jaded from SO MUCH villain ranting, you know?

It freaked me the hell out, too; I actually jumped in my seat and I never do that.

Right there with ya. He had a hair trigger on that character. But that's the way the Joker SHOULD be: frighteningly unpredictable. I found the pace of the movie to be a runaway train. The longer the Joker was on the loose, the worse things got, till you thought there was going to be nothing left of Gotham but smoking ruin.

I can't WAIT for Watchmen!
(/shameless plug)

The only trouble I had with Batman this time around was the silly Lunchlady Doris voice. But everything else was bloody good.

And the world is full of dickweeds and they are running the DHHS.

There was one point at which I was just like "Oh, Jeez, Christian, ease up."

It was a little much in places.

It was not him. Heath was gone. At no point, none, did he remind me of any of his characters, of himself, anything.

I think he did break once. It was only for about one second, maybe two. When they were on Lower Five (or something -- driving through that tunnel, and Heath was riding in that open truck thing, shooting?) At one point, when the character is shifting to maintain his balance on an open, moving vehicle? His body-language changed. Not the Joker's shuffle anymore.
Just for a second, there was that familiar, fluid grace.
But that was the only time.

And, yeah. Damn... What an amazing piece of work...

It's sad that we won't be able to watch him work that gift even more. :-(
