Girl Talk: Should I Be Jealous Of His Female Friends? -- it was the comments I found especially noteworthy, really. Although plenty of commenters express that they're ok with their partners having friends of a different gender, a large number seem to consider it so normal not to accept this that it's almost taken-for-granted (especially the ( Read more... )

Often I'm closer with my female friends than my male friends, though I think my split of 'friends' is about 50/50 right now. My best friend is Felicia. Anna's best friend is David, and she hangs out with guys just as much as women, and tends towards the tomboy crowd even when she is with the girls.

The gender of these folks is irrelevant to the ability of us to have meaningful friendships with them, and it's irrelevant as a matter of trust in our own personal monogamous relationship. Nothing is going to happen. Besides, Anna would sooner jump the girls than the guys anyway.

*nod* I'm not surprised at all to hear you say this; seems like we've all got that sort of pattern in our family.

The family isn't even batting an eye that I'm going to spend a weekend with a women, not my wife, alone in another state. Anna's fine with that and trusts both me and her completely enough that her only complaint is that she wants to attend as well.

*snerk* This is so not going to help the rumors started at DragonCon about Felicia being our mistress.

(Dad will be in another hotel down the block for his points, but I prefer my chain over his due to constant bad experiences with his.)

Exactly.

Is this something that our family was "too sane" about? *chuckle* No wonder we don't understand the rest of the world.
