Sliding easily into my top 5--nay, perhaps even top 2 or 3--for books and films discovered this year, we have Daniel Deronda, book by George Eliot, film by BBC.

It was pointed out that Men and others sometimes do apologize in the books, but they use "pardon me" or "I beg your pardon" instead. I had neglected to search on "pardon," so I did that as a follow-up.
