On the beach (part 1)

This is what happens when you put a roll of expired Fuji Astia (sell-by date 1998) in a Holga, go to the beach and have the film cross-processed.

I absolutely adore these, odd colours, blown-out highlights, sagging horizons, slightly off compositions and all.

One virtual mega-serving of cinnamon ice cream coming your way! There now, that will make your poor head stop hurting...

I will most definitely be at home in the first week of July. Chances are I will be quite busy, but I'll tear myself away from my computer for you. If you're really, really nice to me, I may even take you to a restaurant in Amsterdam where they serve the most glorious bastani (Persian ice cream). shizunde will be green with envy!

What's your itinerary going to be like?

Dank je! :-) Yes, I think the cross-processing experiment will be repeated at some point. I'm rather pleased with the results of this first roll.

And now that you mention it, yes, I think parts of Amelie were cross-processed. Funny, I'd completely forgotten about that.

I'm glad I could teach the universe something it didn't know yet. I can now cross this item off my list of goals in life and proceed to the next item, which is to learn Afrikaans. That language rules!

The green cast seems to be universal in cross-processing; it doesn't matter which kind of film you use, it will turn out green, anyway.

I think the success of the photos may depend on the colours of your subjects. If you take a look at the pictures above, you'll see that they are mostly of white or very pale subjects. That seems to work -- the photos have a clear green cast, but it adds to the photos rather than detracts from them. However, if you take pictures of very dark or colourful subjects, the green will become very dark, and really rather ugly. So the next time you get anything cross-processed, maybe you should stick to light-coloured subjects...

Only twenty-four? You've got 85 cameras and you're only dropping off 24 rolls of film today? Colour me unimpressed...

Nah, kidding. I never cease to be amazed by the number of photos you take. I look forward to seeing the new Fuji shots.

Have you ever crossed Ektachrome? I know some people love it, but I think the green cast is a bit too green for my taste.
