Kyuhyun felt like the world stopped when his room door swung open. It was 1 in the morning and Kyuhyun had been playing Starcraft because he didn’t need to wake up early tomorrow and he didn’t have plans anyway. It wasn’t the sound of the door swinging opened that surprised him really - because the door had opened many times when Changmin enters the room and tells him that he should sleep, or he should eat or he should do something that didn’t want to do - why couldn’t the man understand that Kyuhyun just wanted to play Starcraft?
Kyuhyun is sure his jaw dropped to the ground when he saw Sungmin standing there with a big white luggage following behind him. “Yah, why aren’t you asleep?” the man in the doorway said leaning on the door, catching his breath.
“Sungmin?” Kyuhyun is positive he was dreaming one hell of a vivid dream. Sungmin’s voice sounded so real and it didn’t seem like Sungmin was going to disappear any time soon.
“I thought you should be asleep!” Sungmin said again, pulling his luggage to the edge of the room then taking of his jacket. Kyuhyun was sure it was no dream now that the sound of Sungmin bouncing on his bed and the creaking of it from Sungmin’s bouncing was quite real.
“Sungmin, what are you doing here?” Kyuhyun finally said, standing up flailing his arms around in mid air. Kyuhyun grasp Sungmin’s right arm and was still shocked at how real and solid Sungmin’s arm was. This is no dream.
It had been a year since Kyuhyun had last seen Sungmin and Sungmin had longer hair. Sungmin wasn’t as thin as he used to be and Kyuhyun could see that Sungmin had been working out. Kyuhyun wasn’t as thin as he used to be either, he had grown thinner. He had skipped meals because he spent a lot of his money on beer and didn’t have the guts to ask his dad for more.
Kyuhyun wasn’t as willing as he used to be a few months ago. He had lost all motivation all together and really felt like just lazing around all day. He spent most of his time drinking and playing Starcraft, forcing himself to go to practice when Changmin nags him to. He didn’t see the need to be a singer anymore, so sometimes if he could manage it he would skip practice. He’d gotten into trouble sometimes and Kyuhyun was sure the president was going to fire him soon but that all didn’t matter. He didn’t want to become famous, he didn’t want to sing. All he needed was a beer and Starcraft and he would be happy.
He didn’t need friends or family; he didn’t need Sungmin.
Kyuhyun had thought; Sungmin didn’t need him anymore, that’s why the other stopped calling to ask about how Kyuhyun was; that’s why Sungmin stopped calling to tell Kyuhyun about everything that happened in the house. And truthfully, Kyuhyun should have seen it coming. To Sungmin, they were brothers and brothers could live without each other. Though, to Kyuhyun, Sungmin was everything and he couldn’t live without Sungmin. So, it got to a point where Kyuhyun would think was it worth leaving his comfortable home for Korea to impress a man? Was it relevant to go to those measures just to forget a man that never saw him more than a brother?
“What the hell are you doing here, Sungmin?” Kyuhyun bellowed suddenly angry from the intrusion. Sungmin hadn’t called for so long - what made him think he could just walk in to his life like this? Who did he think he was?
“Yah! I just came from a 14 hour flight to come to you and you’re shouting at me? What kind of treatment is this?” Sungmin said, waving Kyuhyun’s hand off of his arm. Kyuhyun glared at the other man in front of him, completely furious. “Get out” Kyuhyun growled; his hand clenching into a fist holding his anger.
“What?” Sungmin cried, hysterically. “You’re telling me to get out?”
Kyuhyun kept his glare steady on the other. He had so much he wanted to mad about, he wanted Sungmin to know how much he was hurting; he wanted Sungmin to feel his pain; he wanted to shout at Sungmin; he wanted to scream. “You selfish brat!” Sungmin exclaimed. “No, I will not get out!” Sungmin words spilled out slowly on emphasis, in his fluent English.
“Fine if you’re not going, I am.” Kyuhyun reached for his coat and stormed out. He walked out of the apartment and slammed the front door shut. He stood in front of his, thinking of what had just happened. He was confused and lost; angry and disappointed; his feeling overwhelmed him and he leaned to the closes surface, his legs giving in as his heart thumped so hard in his chest then slumped onto the floor, finally realizing his actions. You stupid man, what are you doing?
Kyuhyun ended up curled on the floor outside his door, his legs sprawled out taking up the spaces in the hallways. Kyuhyun didn’t mean to shout at Sungmin. He really didn’t. What I really wanted to do was hug you. I can’t believe you were actually in front of me.
Kyuhyun hated that he always acted so hastily, he hated that he was always doing the opposite of what he really wanted to do. He hated that he always ended up hurting Sungmin. He was nothing - nothing at all - nothing worth of Sungmin. Sungmin was a smart boy with good ethics and moral values. Not to mention, good looking and lovable. Sungmin didn’t deserve to go on such a long flight to have Kyuhyun shout at him.
Kyuhyun palmed his face in his hands, regretting each bit of his life. He regretted going to Seoul in the first place and leaving Sungmin. He regretted ever laying hands on beer and betraying Sungmin. He regretted ever kissing Sungmin because now he wishes he could do it again. He regretted ever hugging Sungmin to sleep because nights without Sungmin became so much harder. He regretted every piece of his life. And right now, he regretted shouting at Sungmin.
But Kyuhyun could feel it now; how this wasn’t the last of their fights - Kyuhyun had a cart of canned beer on the desk next to his laptop - Sungmin wasn’t going to let go of that. And if Sungmin were to leave the next morning because of Kyuhyun hurtful words, they were sure to fight some more. Kyuhyun didn’t want to fight though. He didn’t want Sungmin to leave tomorrow. Don’t go.
Kyuhyun collected himself from the floor and silently opened the door. He wasn’t going to be a child and avoid Sungmin all day. He’ll regret it later and truthfully, he had enough regrets to last him a life time.
“Eh?” Kyuhyun step fell back as he saw Sungmin in the hallway heading for the door, his arms working on trying to get a coat on. They stare at each other for awhile - Kyuhyun at a loss of words. He didn’t think Sungmin would come look for him; usually when Kyuhyun stormed out from a fight; Sungmin would let him go off and cry. But the Sungmin standing in front of him didn’t look like he was going to cry. Nor, did he look like he had cried.
“I thought it would have been cold outside” Sungmin mumbled looking straight at Kyuhyun lifting an extra scarf in his hand. Kyuhyun hadn’t seen those shining eyes for a long time and he felt like it was the first time he saw it; captivating.
“Yea, it kind of is…” Kyuhyun said as though he had actually been wondering outside the building when actually he had been sitting in front of the door the whole time. Kyuhyun couldn’t really guess what Sungmin was feeling now and it kind of scared him. He had always been able to guess Sungmin’s feelings just by looking at him but now, Kyuhyun couldn’t guess. He predicted Sungmin would be furious at him - Kyuhyun had told him to get out the moment he just got in - but as it seemed now, Sungmin was perfectly calm. Even though, Kyuhyun had mistreated him, Sungmin was still coming after Kyuhyun. I am a horrible person.
“Is it ok if I sleep on your bed? The sofa doesn’t seem comfortable” Sungmin said his hand gesturing the sofa in their living room where Changmin usually watched that old television they got from a sunbae. Kyuhyun nodded slowly in reply; his heart beating fast from the turn of events. One moment they were shouting at each other, the next Kyuhyun was agreeing to share a bed. Did things really change that fast?
Sungmin turned around and started heading to Kyuhyun’s room, his steps slow as if he was waiting for Kyuhyun to come with him. And Kyuhyun did; matching his steps to Sungmin’s ensuring that he was at least two steps behind Sungmin. There were too many things running through his head. Was he dreaming? Was Sungmin not mad at him? Was Sungmin really leading him to his bedroom or it was Kyuhyun’s wild imagination or his longing causing him to become insane enough to see Sungmin right now?
It surprised Kyuhyun when he entered the room. Sungmin had tidied the place up; the empty cans of beer were in a plastic bag in the corner of the room, the clothes on the floor that Kyuhyun had threw around were placed into the laundry basket that Kyuhyun had initially left empty. Kyuhyun stared at Sungmin. Are you not going to yell at me for drinking? Are you not going to tell me off at all?
“You’re a big boy now, you should know better than to clean your room” Sungmin said when he noticed Kyuhyun’s intent stare. “I’m going to the toilet. It’s just next door right?” Sungmin said getting his toothbrush and other toiletries as he left.
Kyuhyun took off his coat and puts it aside, his eyes still wondering around his newly-cleaned room. His eyes fall on a few cans of beer Kyuhyun hadn’t gotten round to opening yet. Sungmin didn’t throw them away. They were still minors and Sungmin used to hate it so much that Kyuhyun was drinking, but why does he seem indifferent to it now.
Kyuhyun then climbs into his single bed, figuring he must me damn drunk, or he was still dreaming. Sungmin couldn’t be here. This couldn’t be Sungmin. So he closed his eyes thinking, this is all just the dream.
But then the door opens and Kyuhyun could hear the sounds of Sungmin putting away his things. This dream is sure damn vivid.
It was harder to deny that it was real when Kyuhyun felt the bed move as Sungmin clambered on it - even harder as Kyuhyun could feel Sungmin’s body heat inches away from him. Kyuhyun open his eyes and could see the silhouette of Sungmin’s back facing him. Sungmin had closed the lights and the room was dark but Kyuhyun could make out each contour of Sungmin’s body under the blanket they shared.
“Sungmin” Kyuhyun felt so vulnerable and sentimental as he said the others name; his emotions overwhelming as he realized that Sungmin was lying right next to him. Sungmin turned around so that he was facing Kyuhyun; his eyes shining in the dark room making Kyuhyun feel like it was a dream come true.
“Mmm…” Sungmin hummed in reply. A small smile crept on Sungmin’s lips and Kyuhyun couldn’t take it anymore. Kyuhyun swiftly wrapped his arms around Sungmin, crushing the other in his embrace.
You really are here.
Kyuhyun chuckled slightly as Sungmin comes closer, making himself comfortable in Kyuhyun’s arms; in such a familiar position.
You really are here.
***~~~***
Sungmin should not have tagged along to this party. He knew Kyuhyun felt guilty about leaving Sungmin alone at home but right now, Sungmin thought its better that he did stay at home. Sungmin didn’t know anyone and he kept hanging around the dessert table trying to contain his anger. They were at one of Kyuhyun and Changmin’s sunbae’s party and the place was stuffed with people. Changmin was lost from sight as soon as they got there. At first, Sungmin was sitting around on the couch with Kyuhyun but soon enough Sungmin felt uncomfortable when people started filling the couch with them, talking louder than necessary.
He had only decided to go get something to munch on or some drinks for him and Kyuhyun but then when he had got back a girl was sitting down on Kyuhyun’s lap, whispering into Kyuhyun ears. If Sungmin was crazy enough, he would have bitten that girls head off but Sungmin wouldn’t go that low. Sungmin retreated back to the dessert table, trying to delete that annoying image in his head. But even as Sungmin was staring holes into those weird looking pastries, all Sungmin could see was that girl’s lips on Kyuhyun’s ear; the girl’s big boobs brushing Kyuhyun’s front; her long legs and fit ass on Kyuhyun’s laps. It drove him nuts.
How was he going to measure up to that? He didn’t have boobs and he wouldn’t even look good in that skanky dress. It was hard enough that he was in love with his brother who keeps running away from him; but also, his brother had to be a man surrounded by beautiful bitches who would be happy to suck his dick. He had no chance. And still he was here. I must be fucking crazy.
He knew these things would happen but he had promise himself that he would stay calm when handling them. Though, he had came on impulse because he had missed the other so much that even a phone call won’t do, he was here because his brother needed him. He didn’t want to fight with Kyuhyun. He wasn’t in Korea forever and he wanted sweet memories to keep. At least, just enough; so he could try to get over the other. Kyuhyun was his brother. He shouldn’t feel like this towards him. So he was going to fix it; even if it meant never seeing the other ever again. But for now, he was sure, Kyuhyun needed him here. Or at least, Sungmin thinks he is needed.
Sungmin stormed out the front door and was slightly relieved there weren’t a lot of people outside. He placed the drink he had brought from inside on a coffee table next to him and makes himself comfortable on the wooden chair. “What am I going to do?” Sungmin thought to himself.
“It’s tough isn’t it?” a voice from behind catches his attention. He finds Changmin standing behind him smirking slightly. “When I called you to tell on Kyuhyun, I didn’t think you would come straight away” Changmin said again now taking a seat next to him. Sungmin just smiled; he couldn’t think of a good reply; or at least a worthy one. “But you know, I do worry about him and you seemed to be the only one who could fix this”
“Thanks for telling me” Sungmin said. He was a little shocked when Changmin had called him. Changmin told him about how Kyuhyun might get in trouble if he missed anymore practices and all the things Kyuhyun was doing. He had picked up his drinking habit again and occasionally sleeping around. Telling his dad that he wanted to visit Kyuhyun was easy; his dad had booked all the necessary things within hours. But laying out his plan was harder. The last time this happened if Sungmin was screaming and shouting, Kyuhyun would match his voice and Sungmin would end up crying. And Sungmin didn’t want to cry. He had done enough of crying from missing the other too much. So, Sungmin had decided to do it softly.
Kyuhyun could drink. Sungmin could accept that but of course with restraint. Kyuhyun could go have fun and sleep around with girls, if it doesn’t jeopardize his future. He wanted Kyuhyun to have what he wanted but at the same time what’s best for him because Kyuhyun was better than this. Sungmin would know that much more than anyone else in the world. Because he loved his brother; more than he loved himself.
“You know, you and Kyuhyun really amaze me sometimes” Changmin said, waking Sungmin from his tread of thought. “I mean, for a heartless prick like Kyuhyun, you mean A LOT to him.”
“For one thing, I know, that asshole would do anything for you. I mean he loves you so much he’d do anything” Changmin said nodding his head and Sungmin figured Changmin was starting to get a little tipsy.
“I’m talking the truth you know” Changmin said pointing his finger at Sungmin. “He even talks about you when he’s drunk”
“He talks about me when he’s drunk?”
Changmin nodded enthuastically. “He complains about how you never call anymore. How he shouldn’t have left you for Seoul. What was that thing he always repeats when he’s talking about you?” Changmin said pausing to look at Sungmin for awhile, his head falling to the side as it seemed like Changmin was having a hard time keeping his balance. “Oh right. He keeps saying how huggable you are and starts hugging everyone around him. He had been doing that since high school. I should know. I’m always there when he’s drunk”
So, you missed me too?
Sungmin patted Changmin on his shoulder. “Thank you, Changmin.”
Sungmin had had a tough time when Kyuhyun had left. At first, just listening to Kyuhyun’s voice was enough but as time passed, Sungmin kept arguing with himself. Kyuhyun would never call him so why would he bother to call anyway? But then it got harder for Sungmin to sleep at night and harder for Sungmin to deny that he didn’t just need Kyuhyun. He loved Kyuhyun. He loved Kyuhyun much more than he loved himself. And the tears that followed were tears of blood killing him inside. He love was unrequited and forbidden. But listening to Changmin’s words made it seem like, Sungmin was only thinking of himself. Kyuhyun missed him too. Of course, he did.
He then does what he wanted to do for awhile now. He marched in and tapped Kyuhyun’s shoulder trying to attract not only Kyuhyun’s attention but also that whores’s attention too.
“I’m sorry” Sungmin said grabbing the lady’s arm and pulling her off Kyuhyun’s lap. “I’ll take him from you.” Then, he pulled Kyuhyun away, ignoring everything else and dragging Kyuhyun toward the door.
