Things are changing in the Bar, and Doc doesn't like it one bit. Last night, he was given a card by Tower, and it was somewhat positive - which was odd, but welcome

"No, it ain't right. I heard tell there's a helluva crater out that way," he nods his head off towards the woods. "I ain't seen it myself, but I've heard talk."
Doc has his hands tucked deep into the pockets of his duster to ward off the bitter chill.
"Sky reminds me of the day we lost John. The clouds...not the...red colorin'."
"Alphanumeric, thanks." He guides the surfbaud through to the tackroom, and there's a certain amount of grunting as he manhandles one of the crates off it and into a corner. "Not that anything here-oof-could eat my food anyway."
Emerging, he adds, "I'm storing it in a few different places, so if anything goes wrong with some of it, some should still be safe."
Jack hasn't left the bar since he came in the other night. He hadn't been planning to stay when he'd come in, but now...
He's outside, looking at the gathering clouds and red sky, an unsettled feeling tickling up and down his spine, when he sees Doc heading toward the stables. He turns, heading for the stables, the snow crunching underfoot.
Jack glances behind him at the sky once more, that shiver running down his spine again. He'd think that his instincts were kicking in, but it would be hard not to get an ominous feeling from the atmosphere in the bar.
"Sure looks like something's coming. Anything I can do to help?"
It certainly feels like he should be able to do something around the bar, but then it's hard to know what to do when he has no idea just what's causing all this, or how any of his skills could possibly apply to the situation.
"I'm headed out t'check the stables. We had an awful explosion out in the woods the other day; nothin' broke loose that I could tell, but with this wind..."
Who knows what might blow loose.
"I could use a hand if I find anything's broken free, if you ain't busy."

The longer he stays here, the more he realizes he can't do as much as he likes and the image of that tired soldier hasn't left his thoughts.
He arrives at the counter just as Doc's horse trough of coffee appears and he blinks, "Is that all coffee?"

He drinks from the ladle to test it - and sure enough, it is.
"I was just bein' figurative, and then...this popped right up."

William ducks behind the Bar to grab a mug, he's not taking a chance on things being messed up that way and dips it into the coffee.

"It didn't sparkle, did it?"

The horse looks agitated, eyes and ears everywhere in between receiving pieces of apple.
Billy looks disquieted.
"Don't look right, does it?"

Turning his gaze up to the sky, the feels the cold press in and thinks of that New Year's day morning.
"There's some kind of storm comin', alright. It been like this for long?"

He can use the amusement.
"And now," he says, "you only need to find a horse that drinks hot coffee, and all is well!"
Reply
"Though they could use it, given the way the winds have changed out there. I ain't ever felt it so cold."

He does take a mug, though, and scoops himself some coffee from the trough.

"What other things have happened? I know about the explosion and the crater, and I can see..."
He nods at the odd green crystal that is slowly turning as it hovers above the counter, wary of what it might signify.
"...that."

"Hey, Doc. Is it okay if I stow some emergency food in here?"

He motions towards the tackroom.
"It'd likely be best t'keep it in there, so's no critters get to it."

"Howdy, Jack."
The red glow that the sky casts across the snow is strange and unnatural, and Doc can't get used to it.
