Autumn, in Orpheus' opinion, is better than winter, though only slightly. The days are not as short as they will be, but sunlight is still more difficult to come by than he likes.

Still, there are things to celebrate, and though he often drifts into melancholy, he's been feeling a bit more upbeat lately. The presence of a certain god of music in ( Read more... )

It is attracting crabs. Well, one crab. It's about two inches wide and black, but its legs are bright orange, like a pumpkin. It scrambles, sideways, as crabs do, towards the music. Well, vibrations, anyway. It's a crab.

Karkat will miss it in a second.

Orpheus is quite used to attracting animals with his music, though this may well be the first time he's attracted a crab.

He watches in amusement as it draws nearer.

When it gets close enough to detect him as a much larger animal, rather than a distant mountain where the noise comes from, it hesitates, drawn by the music and affronted by the presence of a giant. It temporizes by squatting and raising its violet claws over its head in a challenge.

"GODDAMMIT BIRGUS, YOU SHITHEAD." On a distant sofa, Karkat looks up from his ~ath text and realizes he's misplaced his crabhat.

The kid that approaches to scoop up the crustacean is young, thirteen or so if he was human, which he's not; grey skin, with nubby horns the same color as the crab's legs poking out of hair that looks like it has never seen a comb. He grabs the crab, then hesitates himself, scowling at the music with his eyes narrowed yellow slits.

It's sort of a resemblance.

Between Orpheus' own background and his time in Milliways, he's hardly surprised by the in human qualities. He smiles up at the kid, still playing distractedly.

"Friend of yours?"

It's just crazytalk to think Apollo could be involved in lifting someone's mood. Really now.
That said, he's claimed a couch by the fire in the name of... well, himself, and is very much enjoying the music. (But then, it's Orpheus. That pretty much goes without saying.)

(OOC: I pretty much have to call insta-slowtime, but. :D)

Around about the time Apollo claims that couch, Orpheus' song takes a turn for the fonder.

Which may or may not lend credence to the theory behind his mood.

"Hey."
He won't interrupt, and he knows full well he's been spotted, but he felt the need to say hi anyway.

"Hello," Orpheus answers with a blinding grin.

And there's a definite upswing in the tone of his tune.

The music is nice and reminds William of a time when things seemed simpler and his family fit together.

He doesn't want to disturb Orpheus so he's quiet and listens from his seat near the fire.

Orpheus wraps up the song before too much longer and he smiles over at William.

"That was pretty,"
He feels like he should say more but the song caught him off guard with just how much he misses how things used to be.

Orpheus arches an eyebrow. "Pretty?"

He's not exactly offended, just...disappointed.

"I like this one."

Scorpius doesn't bother with a couch or chair, choosing instead to sit on the floor near Orpheus and the fire.

"It's nice."

Orpheus laughs softly as he continues to strum, always glad of an audience.

"It is nice, yes. Much more so than some of the others."

Though Scorpius only has the depressing Valentine's song to compare to?

"Much more. Does this, er - Mean you're happy?"

That and the spider-pouncing one...

"I have been recently, yes."

His song takes on a slightly playful turn. "And how have you been?"

He's not the only one hanging out with a guitar, though the redhead (this week, the colored stripe is bright yellow) wouldn't profess to be nearly as good as Orpheus. She more sort of dabbles and isn't entirely sure what possessed her to bring her guitar into a public space, but here she is, managing not to clash with Orpheus' tune.
Which is good, since she rather likes it. That's not a feeling Claudia knows very well, but she's getting used to it - and she likes the idea. (Not that the Warehouse family is entirely functional, but it still works, in its way.)

It's probably quite a good thing that she doesn't clash with his music. He doesn't often play with other people, and he tends to get in a mood if people try to join him.

But he's happy enough today, and she's not ruining his song, so he allows it, and even plays it out to the end.

"You're good. She says, running for Understatement of the Century."
Just because Claudia underestimates her own talent in this particular area (she's a computer whiz kid, not a rock god) doesn't mean she can't tell talent when she hears it.

Orpheus chuckles softly. That makes up even more for butting into his song.

"Thank you."
