Teja was out by the lake shore, practising with a sword that was, in fact, lighter and slimmer than he was used to; he had made himself one like those Will Turner made, or Kurt Wagner used. He wanted to see how it might be possible to speed up his movements, the way that damnable gelding had done to win the duel.

Asar-Suti was inside, having lunch

A small blonde person approaches the purple god, peering at him over the table.

"Boo!"

[vs_nuggan]

Shufti rolls her eyes.

"That man is very provocative. Was it enough to need Security?"

[asar_suti]

"I wasn't there," Asar-Suti says, "but Thady the rat, who knows him, swears it was a regular duel, consensual, with witnesses, the works. I had a magical duel once, too. I guess it was all right."

Beat.

"Really provocative, yes. Gender-biased like one of those damn Cheysuli from my world, too. My Ihlini were always much more egalitarian when it came to men and women; only the ability in magic counted. That king with the axe better gt used to it before a real kick-ass lady, well, kicks his ass!"

[vs_nuggan]

Grin. "I was tempted. But..." she taps the badge. "I decided it would be better to educate him."

[asar_suti]

"Oh," Asar-Suti says. "What did you educate him with? Was it you with the feminist pamphlet Thady says the Goth is trying not to read?"

[vs_nuggan]

"Oh no. I just told him to get whatever his problem was off his chest."

[asar_suti]

"What did he say, then?" Asar-Suti says. "I hope he says what his problem is before he offends Gil or anything, and I get really angry and turn him into a woman against his will - the Goth not Gil, of course!"

[vs_nuggan]

"Well, he eventually seemed to agree not to judge children with step-parents."

A sigh. "If he gives you or Gil any trouble, let me know and I'll have a word."

[asar_suti]

"Thanks," Asar-Suti says. "But what's his problem with step-parents? They must have existed a lot in his time; didn't he live at war?"

[vs_nuggan]

"I think his problem was with the fact that Jack's biological father isn't dead."

[asar_suti]

"But he's a damn jerk Jack is better off not knowing!" Asar-Suti says. "That stupid Goth can't possibly expect -- he is an IDIOT!"

[vs_nuggan]

"I know, I told him so. I will explain things to Jack when he is old enough."

[asar_suti]

"You told the Goth he's an idiot?" Asar-Sut laughs. "You totally win at life, Shufti!"

[vs_nuggan]

Small smile. "A little more tactfully, I hope, but thank you."

[asar_suti]

"So, how are you doing, apart from feeding that little fellow there so he can grow as fast as he does?" Asar-Suti asks; there are only so many words to be wasted on the Goth before it gets tedious.

[vs_nuggan]

"I am okay, a little under the weather today, but nothing too bad I'm sure. Steady job, good family life, training Jack not to b-i-t-e people." She passes the little boy another biscuit, then offers one to the god.
