The front door to Milliways bangs open. Beyond it, a cave mouth can be seen. It looks like a beautiful day outside the cave, with clear bright skies and calm seas. The Black Pearl is barely visible, floating at anchor on the gently rolling waves ( Read more... )

Raven grins at him, head tilted.

His own black eyes are very bright.

Possibly for an entirely different reason.

"You are thirsty, perhaps?"

His head whips around as he focuses on Raven.

"I'm always thirsty, mate," Jack answers shortly. There's that fey smile again. "As long as it's rum, savvy?"

Raven's return smile is amused, at least on the surface.

"I am, perhaps, not quite so picky."

But he orders a glass of rum from Bar, and holds it out to Jack.

He laughs, short and harsh.

"This from the fellow who insists on whiskey over rum?"

But he takes the drink and tosses it back, then flashes a grin at Raven. "My thanks, mate."

Lawrence is not going to say anything about how tempermental he looks.

He simply nods a head to the other man in greeting some whay down the bar, however, and orders the southern looking fellow some whiskey.

Rum he'd give, if he knew that Jack preferred this.

The whiskey materializes on the Bar, and Jack stares at it in some confusion.

"Lass?" He's addressing the Bar herself. "Has it been that long?"

And he furrows his brow before walking the few stools over and giving an apologetic smile.

"My apologies...sometimes I'm not quite as good a guess as I'd like."

At the sound of the accent, Jack whirls on him, looking him over carefully. It's almost as though he's checking for threat.

But then he grins wickedly. "Was a bit of a mystery, mate. The lass knows I've a fondness for rum, savvy? I'll thank you, anyhow."

Sara takes in Jack's appearance and demeanor with an experienced glance.

Rum is acquired and offered, along with a smart-assed, "I didn't do it."

"More's the pity, luv," he says, looking her over very thoroughly. Jack takes the glass from her hand and tosses it back, then grins at her.

"My thanks."

"Not a problem. Looks like you've had my week." Slight grin. "How are you, Jack?"

"Alive." It's very short, and Jack turns to the bar to order a bottle of rum.

It comes with two glasses.

"Better than most." He flashes a glance at her. "How about you, then?"

Um, what? Mel was growing increasingly bewildered. For a split second she could have sworn she'd just seen a pirate dressed to the nines walk in a door, then have that door disappear quietly behind him.

But that was just for a second. After that, she just sat in her booth, shivering and staring at him. Until something more interesting happened, which she doubted slightly, she was going to watch.

This could turn out to be an interesting night, she thought, instead of focusing on the cold water dripping steadily down her leg.

Black eyes are glittering as approaches the bar, striding past her booth with a strangely swaying gait-- and then he notices her look.

Jack stops in his tracks and turns to her, cocking his head.

"See something you like, luv?" he asks, grinning.

She blinked dark blue eyes and looked up, making a conscious effort to look in his eyes. She raised an eyebrow, obviously. "Well, you could say that," she said. With her usual cynical smile, just in case.

"Mostly I was hallucinating that you were a gigantic fluffy towel." She looked down. A small but conspicuous puddle was congealing at her feet.

"The Bar's the one to ask for that -- she's a helpful lass," Jack answers, still grinning.

There's something almost sympathetic to it.

"Been soaked more than I'd like meself, once or twice."

Dangerous is always interesting in Alanna's book. Not yet back of full twelve hours, and already things are looking up. She's thinner and has shadows under her eyes, but the smile is unmistakable.

"Good evening, Captain Jack Sparrow. You look as if you could use some rum." She considers this carefully. "Or perhaps a wall to punch."

"No use in punching the wall, lass," he retorts, not without wry humor. "You'd only spill the rum like that, savvy?"

Temper is momentarily arrested as he looks at her carefully. "Ah, Alanna-luv," Jack says after a beat, "you look like you've been through rough seas yourself, make no mistake."

"Not if you throw the punch correctly," she snorts, paling slightly as he mentions the sea. "It has been a bad two months, but I'm on the mend."

She shakes her head impatiently.

"I'm fine. You, my friend, look as if you are not. What happened?" Alanna tries not to look eager as she asks.

Temper rises again, not unlike a storm at sea. Black eyes flash with glittering fury as Jack tells her,

"East India. Penned a rogue ship in port."

His teeth are clenched as he grits out,

"Accused her of piracy. Sank her, all hands-- save for those they hung."
