The front door to Milliways bangs open. Beyond it, a cave mouth can be seen. It looks like a beautiful day outside the cave, with clear bright skies and calm seas. The Black Pearl is barely visible, floating at anchor on the gently rolling waves ( Read more... )

Um, what? Mel was growing increasingly bewildered. For a split second she could have sworn she'd just seen a pirate dressed to the nines walk in a door, then have that door disappear quietly behind him.

But that was just for a second. After that, she just sat in her booth, shivering and staring at him. Until something more interesting happened, which she doubted slightly, she was going to watch.

This could turn out to be an interesting night, she thought, instead of focusing on the cold water dripping steadily down her leg.

Black eyes are glittering as approaches the bar, striding past her booth with a strangely swaying gait-- and then he notices her look.

Jack stops in his tracks and turns to her, cocking his head.

"See something you like, luv?" he asks, grinning.

She blinked dark blue eyes and looked up, making a conscious effort to look in his eyes. She raised an eyebrow, obviously. "Well, you could say that," she said. With her usual cynical smile, just in case.

"Mostly I was hallucinating that you were a gigantic fluffy towel." She looked down. A small but conspicuous puddle was congealing at her feet.

"The Bar's the one to ask for that -- she's a helpful lass," Jack answers, still grinning.

There's something almost sympathetic to it.

"Been soaked more than I'd like meself, once or twice."

"Not something I'd like to repeat, personally." With all her dignity as a goddess' daughter, she marches up to the bar. And stops. And thinks.

Um... she? "You know, in the real world, bars don't give out handy towels at just the right moment. It just doesn't happen." She shrugs, and says, "Towel, please? Nice fluffy one, if possible."

She blinks as something actually happens-- immediately, in fact. It's silent for a second, then, cautiously: "I could use a drink, too... Something strong, with pineapple in it."

Mel picks up the towel and wraps it around herself. Very nice.

Jack winks at her. "First time here, lass? It's an interesting place, this one."

He pulls off a tricornered hat and gives an elaborate bow.

"Delighted to meet you. The name's Sparrow. Captain Jack Sparrow."

"It appears that way, yes." She nods and struggles against the laughter. She's supposed to be composed and even tragic, not hysterical. Still, it's an unusual sight-- most people she meets with don't have braided beards and tricorn hats.

It's rare, anyway.

"I'm Mel Hahn. Or Melpomene, if you prefer the complicated version."

"Think there's already a Mel here," he says thoughtfully. "Believe Alanna's mentioned her. But you're new..." Jack grins, and then snaps his fingers.

"Melly. You look like a right sort of lass-- I'll call you Melly, luv."

Melly. Perfect nickname for the godsdamned muse of tragedy.

She looks at him from under a thoroughly furrowed brow.

"Well, I'm glad I'm unique, at least."

[OOC: Replying to myself. I must flee now, before the clock strikes 10:30 and my computer turns into a pumpkin. Or something. It's been brilliant. Thanks.]

Mel took a careful look around, then took her towel with her and went upstairs.

[OOC: No worries, and I'm only sorry for being so slow with tags! Do let's thread again. :) I'll have Jack keep an eye out for her. Sleep well!]

Jack watches her go, grinning now.

"That's a lass I'll have to remember."

He strolls off toward the Bar, evidently in a better mood.
