The front door to Milliways bangs open. Beyond it, a cave mouth can be seen. It looks like a beautiful day outside the cave, with clear bright skies and calm seas. The Black Pearl is barely visible, floating at anchor on the gently rolling waves ( Read more... )

River, on the contrary, is quiet today. She's lying under a booth, in the shadows, relaxed and still.

Her eyes are closed; her hair spreads around her as if floating in a pool of seawater.

That relaxation might be somewhat disturbed by the sound of boots stomping by toward the bar, then back again-- or the sound of soft, fervent cursing as he flings himself into a neighboring booth and begins to drink.

Maybe.

On the other hand, River lives on a ship in close quarters with Jayne Cobb.

She turns her head towards his booth, eyes still closed; after a minute, she opens them. She can't see Jack from here, but she watches the wall between them with interest.

When there's a momentary lull in the cursing, and the sound of a glass or tankard being slammed down on the table, she suggests, "Dàxiàng bàozhàshì de lādùzi. You can translate."

One more curse, this one bitten off suddenly, and then beaded braids dangle clearly as Jack leans to the side, looking under the table.

A pause.

"Lass, there's perfectly good chairs about."

Raven can't help but look up and arch a brow as Jack Sparrow enters the bar- make that stalks into the bar looking like an angry storm, or at least to her it seems that way.

Peering over her book she watches the strangely dressed man and wonders just where he may be from.

"You look lost or ticked off, or both." Raven was never good at formal greetings.

"Oh, and you're very observant, lass," he snaps back at her, black eyes glittering.

A beat, and then it's almost insulted, almost sulky--

"I never get lost."

Doesn't bat a lash as he snaps at her. "Right, okay, you're not lost."

Lowering her book she looked the man over. "But you certainly look pretty ticked off."

"As I said the first time, you're very observant."

Jack studies her for a moment, black eyes glittering, and then grins. "Feisty, too. What's your name, lass?"

The slamming of the door is what gets Serafina's attention. The look the man has to him is what keeps it.

She watches him from the bar, a glass of wine in one hand, green eyes full of calm interest.

He comes up to the Bar not far from her, and a bottle of rum is waiting for him when he arrives.

"My thanks, luv." It's as tense as the rest of him, leashed fury visible in every line.

Serafina continues to watch him as he approaches the bar. (Kaisa, on the other hand, is grooming his feathers on the barstool right next to hers, and does not seem to notice or care.)

As he reaches for the bottle of rum, she speaks.

"The bar knows your tastes, it would seem."

"We've an understanding between us," he retorts, and then Jack turns and looks at her.

Pretty lass, blonde, carries herself well-- almost reminds him of someone, in a way.

And...

"... lass, you're being followed by a fowl."
