The Deep South

I took the job in the City. Google were dragging their heels, and even if I'd waited for an actual offer, that still wouldn't necessarily mean I'd get to work on Google Maps, which to me was the most exciting, existing-job-offer-trumping possibility. The other company sweetened their offer in the hope of a final decision by me, and I accepted.

Cool! There's a chance I'll be there then. What's your itinerary? (Feel free to send me a link to it if you've posted it... I'm so not keeping up with LJ these days! =P )

I've just arrived in Sydney. I was hoping to wait until next year, but my friend's health is too poor. =( E-mail me when you know you'll be here, though, and I'll put you in touch with cool peeps, and send you my things-to-do-in-Sydney list. =)

Congrats on the new job - hope you'll be happy there. It's Google's loss.

That carousel looks amazing - never seen one with labradors before!

Yeah, there are all kinds of crazy animals. Click through to the flickr set; there are a couple more.

Congrats on the new job... Enjoy your travels! I like the silhouette of your hat in the second to last photo, along the sand :)

Thanks! It was quite by accident... I wasn't sure if I liked it, but hearing somebody else liking it makes me like it more. =)

Congrats on the new job!

The carousel is lovely. Obviously well taken care of. We had some unusual animals at the one at Hamilton Beach (yes, really; it's on Lake Ontario in Rochester NY). But when I was riding it as a child, it was fairly neglected. Layers and layers of ugly mono-color paint. Nothing like the glory in your picture. They did eventually restore it, but it was "after my time."

I'm pleased that the ones in the City are in pretty good nick, too, like that the Metreon and the one near that new playground in Golden Gate Park. It's great to keep that old-world charm alive.
