Hmm, well, quite a few fb messages tossed back and forth - at first she tried to justify it, said how it was just jokes between good friends, freedom of speech etc, I shot her arguments down - she finally accepted my point of view as ( Read more... ) -

She left a response on the fb thread going "WTF, are you joking? " So I sent her a private message:
"If you live in such a tiny bubble of privilege that you do not understand how offensive that use of language is then I am seriously disappointed in you. I love you very much, but the use of gay and fag this way is deeply and inherently offensive. ( Read more... ) -
Did I overreact?
One of my favourite nieces (shes 24) said to a friend of hers on fb "that is so gay! You are such a fag" and I commented "that is deeply offensive to me, I find it really disgusting".
I know its what the kids say, but I hate it, I don't think it's ok.

Getting going
So it's my last day in my office, sigh, being moved down to a cubicle I'm a sociologist I can't help but think in terms of status and hierarchy, it is a demotion.
Nut I've stopped sulking about it and am just going to get on with it.
And I'm on google+ but not sure if I like it or not yet.

Cinema Days & Nights
It's the annual queer film festival here, Outtakes, and I went along to the opening night feature last night, "Le Fil" a French/Tunisian confection that was sweet and romantic and sunny - and totally unrealistic - but I loved it. Well...
It's been ages since I posted in here - I've been lurking and looking, but not posting. I haven't felt like writing much at all in fact, anywhere - not sure why.
But I have been getting some PhD writing done.
And now - a new blog is up. Maybe I needed to get this out before I could do anything else. -

Yesterday one of my best friends came round for a cup of tea - and to tell me he was diagnosed HIV+ a week ago with a CD4 count of 58 - so he must have had it for a few years. He hadn't had a test for 5 years, but figured he didn't need one ( Read more... )
