So I got a 20% discount card for shitty bookstore chain in town (eg. the one that's not Waterstones or Borders *sigh*) Anyone have recommended reads that I might be able to find in a not-very-big not-very-specialist store? I really want to read the House of Leaves, but I'm not sure they will stock it. I have a pile of about ten books I'm reading or ( Read more... )

As far as manga is goes, I highly recommend Berserk. It's not for everybody as it is very gory and has a bit of nudity and rape and good ol' fashioned sex, but it's an amazing story with amazing art. I recommend torrenting the first volume to see if it appeals to you since the manga volumes are plastic wrapped to keep little kids out, at least in the US.

As far as books, check out the first book the computer game The Witcher was based on. It's called The Last Wish and I really enjoyed it for a fun read. It's a nice piece of fantasy that doesn't take itself entirely seriously, which I really enjoy. The next book in the series is coming out next month, too. Oh I've heard people say good stuff about Berserk but was put off by people talking about the rape. I will look into it though.

I've already read the Last Wish, it was just last week actually. I loved it though, so spot on recommendation :D I want to find out if the Witcher TV series has any English subned editions, because I aint going to learn Polish, even for Geralt.

I've been reading Vampire Knight but it's completely girly shoujo and much eye candy whose storyline reminds me of old Phyllis A. Whitney gothic romances. Ah, melodrama, I do love you so ( ... )

I don't mind girly or fluffy romance when in comes to comics, I just also like a good dose of creepy ideas in there as well. *hugs CLAMP*

I will certainly keep those titles in mind, Greek gods and quantum theory sounds awesome and I've never shied away from the wacky end of scientific theory. I'm not sure I'd be able to find either in the chain I have the discount for (they only just about stock Terry Pratchett)

Meanwhile, I stumbled across an Egyptian themed puzzle game I wanna recommend to you. It's full of extremely silly but fun ideas, and also some good strong game design, if you enjoy block puzzles.
