So I got a 20% discount card for shitty bookstore chain in town (eg. the one that's not Waterstones or Borders *sigh*) Anyone have recommended reads that I might be able to find in a not-very-big not-very-specialist store? If you're looking for books, I recently discovered John C. Wright's children of chaos series - Orphans of Chaos, Fugitives of Chaos, and Titans of Chaos. It's got Greek Gods at English Boarding Schools! Orphans With Destinies! Action! Romance! Fantasy! Magic! Hard Geometry and Quantum Physics Theory! And a heroine who wears an aviator cap and who is not an idiot at any point in the story that I can remember.
I really enjoyed the trilogy. Parts of it are a little confusing if you're not up on the latest dimensional theory temporal geometry in a basket, but it doesn't really detract from the story as his storytelling gives you context clues if you don't get the hard physics. I discovered it through Tor's recent giveaways of ebooks of its old backlist and found the two sequels through the library. You may yet find 'em in bookstores. I was annoyed that only the first one is available in ebook form otherwise I would have bought them all in e-format. But alas.

I will certainly keep those titles in mind, Greek gods and quantum theory sounds awesome and I've never shied away from the wacky end of scientific theory. I'm not sure I'd be able to find either in the chain I have the discount for (they only just about stock Terry Pratchett)
Meanwhile, I stumbled across an Egyptian themed puzzle game I wanna recommend to you. It's full of extremely silly but fun ideas, and also some good strong game design, if you enjoy block puzzles.
