Would you mind me voicetesting off of you? 7, if it's okay. butticula May 27 2012, 08:25:06 UTC
[Like a good butler (after all, she is an exceptional butler), Karin's noticed that Christopher hasn't yet come down for a meal. And so, she assembled sandwiches and tea, picking out a fragrant Oolong to serve today.

Lightly, she taps on his door, balancing the tray one-handed.]

I MIND SO MUCH. (Yooou! <3) schoollikenew May 27 2012, 17:44:58 UTC
[He's absolutely not used to the Butler ting. Absolutely not. He's used to clenaing his own things, making his own lunches... all of that. A few months in the castle won't break 35 years of training.

So he's in the middle of lesson planning (oh god, and Summer is coming up and he's lesson planning) when he hears the knock. He lifts his head, running through who could be at the door.]

Come in?

[It is a finagle to get through the door, and at one point, the tea tray is balanced between her chest and her left hand. But after a moment, she's in and it's all good. She even offers him a reassuring little smile.]

You haven't been down for breakfast or lunch today.

[It's an observation, rather than an accusation, as she searches for a surface on his room upon which to set the tray. She's loath to get the tea too close to his lesson planning, so the desk isn't her first choice.]

It's a fairly well-known fact that Outsiders who come from the British Isles are Differently Selective about the tea they drink. Chives has always taken that as a bit of a Personal Challenge.

So when Morgan makes her way to the kitchen in the morning, he'll nod her toward the cup of black tea on the counter. "Miss Two. If you'll try the new blend for me."

"Experimenting with teas now?" Her tone is a bit teasing if only because she's finally gotten used to the place. Picking up the cup of black tea, she takes a sip of it. She doesn't have a problem with tea in general. In fact, she likes it.

Even likes black tea unlike some people she knows.

"One can only hope for constant improvement if one constantly makes effort, Miss." He doesn't bother glancing over--doesn't need to. The sound of ceramic as the cup is lifted is more than enough confirmation. "How do you find it?"

It's not often he gets to serve on of The Other's Cards. But it was only a matter of time before Grace was caught waiting on Ethan in the Castle Spades--and anyone caught waiting within Chives' mental radar was Served Tea.

So she'll forgive the butler suddenly Appearing at her elbow with a cup of mint tea, holding it delicately by the rim with a slight tilt of his head. She'll be used to that sort of thing, though, won't she?

It's considered Poor Form to point it out, but the two youngest butlers were still much more alike than either of them cared to admit.

It's the sudden appearance that she's used to as much as she is to the sudden waft of tea hitting her nose. She turns, looking up at the suddenly-appearing blonde, giving him a small smile. "You must be Chives. Thank you."

She takes the cup, taking a small sip and wondering what it is about Deck butlers that makes their tea-making skill so above those of any of the outsiders.

"Indeed so, Miss." If he's a touch pricklier than usual, well, it's the way he tends to be with Diamonds. Not because Ancient Hatreds prejudice him against the entire Suit, but... well.

Diamonds tend to come with a preconception of him. It's hard not to be sharp and match that.

"Certainly no trouble. One does hope you'll enjoy it."

As is Not an Entirely Unusual state of being, Chives is Annoyed with Brennan. It might not even particularly be One Thing so much as the general air of Smug the Nine often has about him on the days he loafs into the kitchen to bother the butler. Worst, there's not much a person can Do about that.

So he'll fight back the only way he can. By handing over a cup back of cherry tea rather than the Nine's usual preference.

Still perfectly brewed, of course, but still. Subterfuge. Subterfuge of cherry.

... I don't know. Y U SO CRUEL, BABY? leavehismark May 27 2012, 20:41:05 UTC
Chives considers it smug, Bren prefers content. He enjoys his time around the Five, and he can't quite help the small smile that usually curves his lips when he watches Chives do what he does.

He takes the tea, still smiling, as Chives goes back to bustling around the kitchen, much like an angry wasp. Taking a sip, he frowns slightly, looking down at the mug and wondering exactly what this was supposed to mean. Cherry tea? He'd never had a cherry tea before. Curious, he took another sip, testing.

Cruel would have been tagging with teen-Chives, okay. piquedbutler May 28 2012, 01:35:44 UTC
People are always looking for deeper meanings in tea. Sometimes, it's there. Tea tends to switch to chamomile when the butler wants a person to go to bed, to mint when he thinks they're too worked up, that sort of thing.

Cherry? Here and now? Just means 'you are an entirely frustrating human being and I cannot be assed to get down the tea you like best.'

"I hope it's to your satisfaction, sir," is tossed easily over his shoulder as he pulls together a small plate to be sent to one of the Ten's. Checking is automatic, even when he's Displeased.
